Split large video file

Post by Wesley47 »

Hi All,

I captured approximately 1 hour DV file contained different scenes from different places. Now, I would like split this file for smaller parts and save them as a separate .avi files.

Is this possible to do this by VSX3 (e.g. cut or multitrim on timeline and save to separate folder each pieces?

If X3 cannot do this, what software you can recommend for relatively easy and quick multi-split, without loose quality?

Thanks for advise.

Hello Wesley47,

I'm Abiel from Corel Support. With regards to your concern, yes it is possible for you to split a large file and save it to individual .avi files.

Here's the steps on how to split a video or clip.
To split a clip into two
1. In Storyboard View or Timeline View, select the clip you want to split.
2. Drag the Scrubber to the point where you want to split the clip.

Click Image or Image to set the cutting point more precisely.
3. Click Image to split the clip into two clips. To remove one of these clips, select the unwanted clip and press [Delete].

But if I am reading the OPs question correctly, he wants to batch cut & save as a separate file. I am not a user of multi-trim so I do not feel qualified to answer.

Thanks Abiel,

"save trimmed file" works fine, but to save, e.g. 25 cuts each, takes time, especially when I have 20 large files for split. I would rather prefer, like Blak Lab says, batch cut and save as separate file software. Maybe in future version od VS?

Any other tips guys?

Best regards

I'm not sure if VS X3 has a batch process feature but it does have a batch convert which I'm sure is not the one that you are looking for. But if you have installed the DVD Movie Factory 7 Se, then you may want to take a look at the multi-trim feature and the EXPORT SELECTED CLIPS.

There are two methods available to have your clips as separate items.
Either you can
1. Split by Scene whilst capturing (transferring) the video from your camcorder to the computer. This produces a separate standalone small video for each scene.
2. Capture as one large complete video file THEN apply split by scene. This produces several thumbnails in your project library. You treat these thumbnails in the same way you would had you opted to do the other method "Split by scene whilst capturing."
