Transfer video file back to camera is stuttering
I have a new notebbok with intel I7 processer, 8 GB memory and 500 GB 7.200 drive. I captured successful the video from my Sony camera, cutted the video, produced a DVD and enjoyed afterwards the video. To back-up the video on a tape normally I generate a video file in my Video Studio x3 (latest version) and transfere
it back to the tape on my video camera. This isn't working in the right way due to stuttering after 10-15 minutes transfering back. After restarting the transition the time until stuttering starts is then less then 10 minutes, next time less then 5 minutes.
Anybody an idea?

Hi Berthold
Welcome to the forums.
Have you been able to transfer the video to camera before with success.
You seem to indicate yes, if so, what have you changed……
Can you give further details of your camera, I assume a Mini-DV type and connected via firewire (I-Link)
What video format are you trying to export.
As far as I know it has to be Dv-Avi.

Re: Transfer video file back to camera is stuttering
Dear all,
I used Mini DV and Firewire. For the export I used DV-avi. The only change I did was the change of the release. In VS 1 Plus it run in the latest version of VS X3 not.

Re: Transfer video file back to camera is stuttering
Berbie, since this issue and your other (http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=39456) have to do with the transfer of DV-AVI files thru firewire, you may have a firewire card or cable that is going bad. Or maybe even the firewire port on the cam (gulp)

Re: Transfer video file back to camera is stuttering
Dear Jeff,
Many thanks for your hints regarding cable and firewire.
I cannot imagine that these hardware is the reason for my problem due to the fact, that I captured the movie with the same equipment and it worked fine. With my second movie I had the same problem: Capturing, cutting and burning was fine but after generating the video-file for the transfer to my camera the same problem occured. It seems to me to be a buffering problem.

Hi Berbie
I can only agree with Jeffs thoughts here, DV-Avi is probably the easiest format for editing. After exploring other options we have to consider the hardware.
Ok other options…..
A free program called Win DV allows you to transfer your video to the pc and also back again. (recording to DV Device)
Can you try Win DV..

Re: Transfer video file back to camera is stuttering
Dear Trevor,
after installing WinDV I did the first tests. Here are the results:
My Sony camera is exactly known by Video Studio as a Sony camera. In WinDV it is kown as Microsoft DV Camera and VCR. When I press the button Record in WinDV there is a movement on the camera together with loud noises, the first picture can be seen on the notebook but nothing else goes on.
Has anybody another good idea to transfer back the avi-file from Video Studio to my camera? Is there a direct way from DVD to video-camera?
Many thanks in advance for your help

Hi Berthold
Win DV
First of all yes I see Microsoft DV Camera and VCR as the “Video source” when connecting my Panasonic GS400, so that is normal and should not give any problems.
The reason for using Win DV was to rule out any problems with Video Studio as I cannot believe that both programs will show the same problem.
Are you able to use another computer to try the transfer the DV files
if that is successful then we can assume the cables and camera are functioning ok.
All that’s left is the Notebook and windows 7

Re: Transfer video file back to camera is stuttering
Dear all,
now I have found a work-around. I installed VS 11.5 Plus in a XP-environment. Then it worked.

Re: Transfer video file back to camera is stuttering
Hi Berthold
Thanks for the feedback……..
Its been a while, but nice to know you managed to get it working.
Seems like a W7 issue, but if it works that’s all that matters.
Your original problem was using X3, I assume this is still not working correctly.
Have you tried installing X3 in XP environment?

Re: Transfer video file back to camera is stuttering
Dear Trevor,
I havn't installed X3 under XP environment.
The question for me is, if the Win7-installation has some problems with x3, e.g. driver, buffer-handling. Do you think that Corel knows about this problem and if they are working on it?

Re: Transfer video file back to camera is stuttering
Hi Berbie
Previously you had tried using Win DV as an alternative to exporting the footage back to camera.
This was unsuccessful and similar to problems using X3, Had this been successful then we would have explored X3 for a problem.
I would conclude that the problem is not X3 but a Windows 7 firewire problem.
Corel will not be aware of this issue, having released X4 there will be no further updates to X3.
I don’t use W7 otherwise I would test the export process.
There may be other programs available that you can try, but if every program you use proves troublesome then clearly you can rule out video Studio as being the culprit……….
Maybe Windows 7 Movie Maker is capable of exporting DV-Avi.
I have just looked at Movie Maker from XP and it seems as though it has the ability to export DV back to camera.
Quote from help files…..DV camera
Specifies that you want to send your movie to a tape in your DV camera. This option is available when you have a DV camera connected to an IEEE 1394 port. Choose this option if you want to save your movie to a tape so you and others can watch it on the DV camera or on a TV (when you connect the camera to a TV).
Can you try this program??????????
Load your movie DV-Avi to timeline, then File Save Movie File-choose DV Camera.
