Hello, all. I'm new to this BB and I'm having a problem....rather a few problems.
I bought Corel Paint shop Pro X2 Ultmate a couple of years ago. I installed it and had beaucoupe problems with it. Somehow, it managed to change ALL my photos to .pcx extensions, and sent a whole pile (about 2000) to the Trash. I managed to recover most, but not all, and over the last few months have managed to get back to where I was about a year ago.
Now....I have been trying to embed a Digimarc watermark on anything I want to publish to my new web site, but the software tells me I have to register with Digimarc. I tried that, but Digimarc said Corel does not have an up to date plug-in, allowing me to use Digimarc with my Corel software. I have tried to contact ANYONE in Corel, but nowhere on their site can I manage to send an e-mail to a REAL person asking when the plug-in may be available.
Now, I thought I registered my software when I first loaded it, but when I check my account, it appears that it has not been registered....I'm very afraid of where this is going......I tried to register it and input the correct serial # MANY times, but continually get the screen telling me:
1) The serial # is INVALID (How can that be???. I paid real $$$'s for the right to use the program and to activate the bundled applications, but am being refused the right to use the bundled applications)
2) I may be using a legacy application (What the heck is going on? I bought the program no more than 2 years ago...MAX)
My questions....Do I throw the program in the garbage and consider it $$$$ down the drain? Will I buy the Upgrade..for another $80...only to find out that I have to continually buy Upgrades for $80 every time Corel decides to make their current software obsolete?
Any help would be greatly appreciated as time is ticking and I have to get my photos protected on my web site.
Legacy application??

Re: Legacy application??
Well first I can honestly say that just because the program is old does not mean that Corel is trying to kill it or make it unusable. I bought a copy for a friend of mine who found out his copy of Photoshop was illegal (didn't know they weren't allowed to resell on Ebay). And it works perfectly for him.
Corel is not trying to force you to upgrade. It's something else.
So my answer to your question is see if you can't get it fixed first. From what you've told us I can assume you didn't spend a lot of time looking for help from Corel directly. If you want to spend money on the update download the trial first. If you think it's a waste of money the last thing you want to do is go buying a replacement if you aren't sure if the replacement will work for you.
As for the email, the reason you can't get a specific person is because they get lots of emails. If you send an email you send to their main address and the next representative that reads your email will get back to you as soon as possible. Personally I hate this method, it's slow and ineffective. Online chat has a better option as you get real-time assistance but I always seem to get disconnected before the person helping can offer any actual advise. So I don't use that at all.
If you can afford to do so on your phone, call Corel directly. Can't say it'll make much of a difference but I've always gotten great support over the phone. And all technical updates are free, it's only How-Tos they charge for.
Otherwise wait and see if Abel or Simone are able and willing to help. Might even help to send them a message directly if they are willing and able to help that is.

I personally prefer calling before contacting the forum people, they're very helpful but the forums aren't really the official side of things.

Re: Legacy application??
Thanks...I tried the Chat, but it appears to be not working. The Contact page says the first 4 options are free, but 2 of them are not working at this time. Go figure. Whenever you need something in a hurry, it's usually not available.
Anyhow, I'll try your suggestions to see if I can get anything going.
Thanks again

Hello dazedANDconfused,
Abiel here from Corel Support. I understand that you have a couple of issue regarding your Corel software and to register it. Allow me to answer both of your question.
The solution for this, I may need to verify some information regarding your PSP X2 Ultimate.
1. Get a screen shot of the SYSTEM INFO.. screen. But do not embed it here.
If you do not know how to get the SYSTEM INFO screen, you can open your PSP X2 Ultimate > HELP menu > ABOUT... > SYSTEM INFO.. button.
2. PIN from your corel account or email address that you used to login to corel.com
3. Full name
4. If you still remember the store where you bought the product.
Then send those information to the email address that I provided in my PM.

There are many reasons why this happens. You may be registering the incorrect serial number or typing it incorrectly, another reason is that you may have been using a illegal copy that is why you cannot register it.1) The serial # is INVALID (How can that be???. I paid real $$$'s for the right to use the program and to activate the bundled applications, but am being refused the right to use the bundled applications)
Since you are using PSP X2 Ultimate which is just the previous version of PSP, you should not be getting the LEGACY MESSAGE nor it is not considered as a legacy message.2) I may be using a legacy application (What the heck is going on? I bought the program no more than 2 years ago...MAX)

Re: Legacy application??
Hello Abiel...I called Support. They registered my product for me and I also contacted Digimarc again. Digimarc said basically, Corel does not have an up to date plugin, and hasn't for some time, that works with their Chroma technology. I have FWD'd this information on to Support and they are reviewing it. Now I just have to wait to see where this goes.
Thank you for your help.
