I use X2 Ultimate at present. Apart from the crashes and freezes where"all photos" in the organiser manages to do this every time.......
I do a lot of image editing for my part time job and this includes complicated image extraction from one shot to another.
X3 Ultimate appears to have a more sophisticated background remover than that in X2.
However, I cannot download the X3 trial from the Corel site, as this appears to be disabled.
My question is, it the Object Extractor worth the effort and expense to upgrade to?
Conversely are there any third party plug-ins that will do the job at least as well?
Example flyaway hair?
Any advice will be appreciated!

I don't know about more sophisticated. It's easier in many respects, but there is no defringing. Which is really annoying in some circumstances. If you look at the tutorials on the Object Extractor on Youtube you can see how these little hairs that are captured also have a lot of the background color attached. Not good for clean transfer of objects. You can avoid this by using a smaller brush and really taking your time but the defringing and unmixing functions of the Background Remover plugin are really nice to have sometimes. That's why I still have it installed with X3.
Though I do like how the Object Extractor simply makes the pixels transparent, it doesn't delete them like the Background Remover plugin in X2. This way I only need to use the eraser to get back areas that were accidentally erased.
I don't think this one tool is worth the upgrade, though that's not to suggest you won't enjoy some other improvements they've made. It's not worth it especially if there are certain things you want to do that are currently not possible with the bugs. For example if you open lots of large images you'll have a problem with this version as it doesn't release memory when you close an image if you edited and saved the image.
Also if you are really dependent on having the organizer inside the editor, as some have shown themselves to be, you won't like the new organizer.
Others who use it more than I do might have a better comparison.

Hmmm. Looks like there is no way round simple graft. My mind is made up not to pay for the extra, even if it is an upgrade only. I agree with you re the defringing and unmixing. It is a cute solution worth keeping.LeviFiction wrote:I don't know about more sophisticated. It's easier in many respects, but there is no defringing. Which is really annoying in some circumstances. fyi I also tried Elements 9 and saw that the principle of the Object Extractor is probably based on the Adobe solution...new window, painting the edges, etc. The problem I encountered was getting my head round Elements 9 after being with Corel for years now (I go back to PSP 7).
Very many thanks for your advice, LeviFiction.

Thanks!

You can directly download the trial of PSP X3 from this link.
@shiiko
The Background remover is a plugin that you can use to easily remove the background. The plugin if from Image skill and the background remover is included when you purchased the PSP X3.
