X3 not printing text content

Post by jesteban »

I have a layout that is made up of images and some text. I noticed that X3 is not printing the text. It seems to only print the images. You can copy merged, save as image and then print or you can go to X2 and print the pspimage file. I'm concerned about this because I used Python to merge text into the final printer via vector text fields and this doesn't work in X3 unless I copy merged and print as new image and then print the new image ( which is kind of a pain).

I just tried one of your scripts called "Simple Caption". I opened up an image. Ran the script. Typed in the caption and printed the page. No Caption. Then I copy merged, paste as new image and printed the page and got a caption.

Actually it's a little odder than that.

I haven't done much testing but here's what I know. When simply adding my own caption it prints no problem. This includes after resizing, the text inside a group or outside of a group.

But running the script I can't print the caption. And don't know why.

So I tried using my own captioning script, printed just fine.

Recreated the script step by step myself, text did not print. I created it again and the text did print, but I made lots of mistakes as I did it.

Saved PSPIMage file does not print in X3 as well. Which is interesting.

Though the print-preview suggests that it should print. I'm just not sure at what point in the process something goes wrong, or if there's something about the setup to prevent text from printing.

I'm going to call Corel see what they can figure out.

Well it doesn't seem consistent. Because one attempt has the text disappearing as soon as I promote the background layer. Another test has it disappearing after doing a canvas resize.

It actually got weirder than that. Did another test where I didn't promote the background and when doing the canvas resize only part of the text disappeared like it was being cut off. Which is interesting. I obviously haven't tested everything, but when the text is added is not a factor as I've added the text at various stages and it either disappears or never shows up when printed.

I'm wondering if anyone else experiences this or can name instances where the text disappears.

I can't figure out when the EXIF Captioning script causes the text to not print. But the fact that it happens at all is interesting.

I am having this problem as well.

I put together a collage by pasting numerous pictures into layers. When I tried to write on top of this, the text showed up onscreen, but it would not print out. I also tried printing to PDF (using a PDF "printer" I have installed) and zero, zip, zilch, nada. However, if I export to PNG then it works fine.

I have had no problems with a much older version of the software (i.e. printing text works); I bought the newer version recently.

Note: I also made sure to get the latest update: 13.2.0.35

There is a bug in PSPP X3 that causes some vector text not to print. It has been there from the start, has been reported many times, makes the program unusable for many, but hasn't been fixed. (There are many serious bugs in X3 that haven't been fixed in the ten months since it was released).
The workaround is to convert the non-printing layer to raster (perhaps on a copy of the original) before printing.
