PhotoImpact 11 - Hangs on Start (L:\ drive)

Post by doobage »

I cannot get PhotoImpact 11 to start. Every time it initializes, the splash screen comes up before it hangs and I get the dreaded "PhotoImpact has encountered a problem and needs to close...."

The problem started when I did a clean install, reinstalling Windows XP Pro and other programs. My operating system and other programs are installed on the L:\ drive (not C:\). I do not have problems with Windows or any other programs. PhotoImpact is the only one giving me grief. Does any one know of a solution?

Hi doobage,

I'm Abiel from Corel Support. If you are experiencing problem with your PhotoImpact X1, please follow these steps below.

1. Open "Control Panel" from the "Start" menu.
2. Double-click or open "System" (in Classic View). This will open the "System Properties" dialog box. You can also open the "System Properties" dialog box by right clicking on "My Computer" then selecting "Properties".
3. Go to the "Advanced" tab and click on the [Settings] button under the "Performance" section.
4. Go to the "Data Execution Prevention" tab.
5. Choose the second option which is "Turn on DEP for all except..."
6. If "" is still not on the list, click on [Add] then browse for the "" executable file from the "Program Files".
7. Apply the changes then click "Ok".

From Microsoft:
To monitor your programs, hardware-enforced DEP tracks memory locations declared as "non-executable". To help prevent malicious code, when memory is declared "non-executable" and a program tries to execute code from the memory, Windows will close that program. This occurs whether the code is malicious or not.

To get the complete information about DEP, visit the Microsoft site:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/securi ... cnfxp.mspx

Hope this helps.
