Corel PaintShop Photo X3 SP2 Crashing on Exit

Post by bgb »

Hi Folks,

I first wanted to start off saying I have been using PSP for a long time (I remember version 1.0 :) ) and used versions up to PSP 9 (Before Corel took over JASC). Then I took a several years break from using the software (I was doing minimal graphics stuff). I recently came back and purchased PaintShop Photo X3 to use with my new Canon T1i DSLR camera. And wow, what a change over the years...

One thing I have noticed though was a couple of things that are starting to make me question the choice of coming back to this software. One of them is the stability of it. Every once in a while, I am the middle of doing some menial thing (such as dragging a grid line) the application will lock up. I have lost work because of this. Another annoyance is that every time I exit the program, it crashes.

Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
Application Name: Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo.exe
Application Version: 13.0.0.1
Application Timestamp: 4c263ad7
Fault Module Name: igLZW15d.dll
Fault Module Version: 15.2.1.0

I have SP2 applied to it but it makes no difference.

Here are some basic info about my current setup.

I am using a Asus G73Jh Laptop with 8gb of Ram, Intel Core i7 Q 720, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870 running under Windows 7 Ultimate.

Do anyone have any ideas before I open a ticket with Corel support? If this does not get resolved, I will unfortunately have to abandon Paint Shop Pro and possibly look at Adobe.

After you've started PSP X3 go to your Task Manager (Ctrl, Shift, Esc), go to the Processes tab, find Media Cataloger and kill that process. Try getting your program to crash again. If this works then you can use the task manager to find the files location ( C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel PaintShop Photo Pro\X3\PSPClassic ) and rename the file, some rename it Old_MediaCataloger, I named mine 01MediaCataloger.

If this works you'll know it. Let us know.
Regards, Dan

Hi Dan,

Thanks for the suggestion, however even after I kill the Media Cataloger process, it still crashes on exit.

Hello BgB,

I'm Abiel from Corel Support. if your program is crashing upon EXIT, this may have been caused by a problem with the Windows Registry. To fix this, I suggest that you perform a clean reinstallation, I suggest that you follow these steps from the Corel Official Forum:http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... 64#p204435 .

After reinstalling the program, I suggest that you download all updates before you use the program. You can download and install the update from this link:http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite/ ... 9872271743 , starting from service pack 1 then service pack 2.

When reinstalling, I suggest that you redownload a clean copy, from your corel account if you purchased a download version.
