Hi...
I have Win-7 and an Hauppauge card. I've a friend who has uLead's MovieFactory 6...
I captured a Ken Burns (baseball) PBS special while he was away... and he wanted to run it thru MovieFactory 6, remove the commercials, put parts 1&2 together and create a DVD. He says he can't import the video... keeps getting some "incompativle" error. My guess is... the video file has a .TS extension.
What can we do now?
Thanks in advance, Steve
MovieFactory - Can't Import .TS Files
Re: MovieFactory - Can't Import .TS Files
I think Movie Factory is supposed to handle TS files, but TS files are MPEGs, so you can try re-naming the file to .MPG, or...
Whenever I have a "problem" file or format, I re-encode it with SUPER ( FREE!!!). Make sure you download SUPER and not the AVS converter advertized on their website...
SUPER has lots of options. Since you're making a DVD, it's best to convert to DVD-compatible MPEG-2 (NTSC or PAL). You should be able to get those settings from your Movie Factory Project Settings. i.e. For an NTSC DVD, you'll want a 720x480 resolution, 29.97 FPS, and a bitrate somewhere around 6000kbps depending on the playing time. And, you'll want AC3 audio at 48kHz. I'm assuming it's NTSC (North America) since it's baseball.

Re: MovieFactory - Can't Import .TS Files
.TS files are commonly produced by HDTV cards -- my DVico Fusion HDTV card, for example. I use two programs to convert the transport stream (which is what .ts stands for of course) to a program stream version of mpeg-2 (which it is in fact): a freeware program called HDTVtoMPEG2 available at http://www.videohelp.com/tools/HDTVtoMPEG2; and a commercial program, Video ReDo... The latter costs about $50, but has a trial version which you could use to see if it works for you.

Re: MovieFactory - Can't Import .TS Files
I use .ts files that were edited by VideoRedo from my Cannon HD camcorder to create blu ray disks using Moviefactory all the time, and it works great.
The problem is that MovieFactory can't use .ts files that were created from my Hauppauge 1212 even if they were edited by VideoRedo.
When I try to import a Hauppauge 1212 .ts file, I get a message "Corel DVD MovieFactory has stopped working".
The problem is in H264VDec.dll. The version of my file is 2.0.1.4, but I read somewhere that some of these problems may be fix with version 2.0.1.7 of the file.
Any ideas where I might get a copy of that file?

Re: MovieFactory - Can't Import .TS Files
Since my last post I have tried making several changes to the way I record HD files from my Hauppauge 1212. I have tried different bitrates from 9 to 13.5 Mb/sec, I tried creating a variable and a fixed rate .ts file, and I tried creating an m2ts file. None of these files can be process by MovieFactory. They all cause the message "Corel DVD MovieFactory has stopped working. My event log show and exception code 0xc000005 in C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Ulead Systems\MPEG\H264VDec.dll. That file is version 2.0.1.4 created on 9/3/2008.
The new Nero 10 HD will read the file and produce a blu ray disc and TMPGEnc Authoring Works will read the file and produce a blu ray disc so I know the .ts files are good.
I like Corel DVD MovieFactory a lot more than these other products and wish I could get to work with the Hauppauge 1212.
