Pro X3 appcrash StackHash_2ec8
I have a problem with VideoStudio Pro X3 that prevents me from successfully completing a project. The program behaves as expected until I move from Edit to Share.
Clicking on Create Video File causes an instant appcrash reporting Fault Module StackHash_2ec8. Fault Module Version 0.0.0.0
Exception Code: c0000096
Exception Offset: 0c757808
I had previously setup a video file template (PAL HD 720p) without issue.
I have uninstalled Pro X3 and re-installed with the updates and service pack.
I have removed my (Klite) codec packs and installed the latest compatible Windows7 codecs from fileHippo.com
I can successfully create a standard DVD using Create Disc but what I want to do is create an HD video file for my media server.
Checking the forum entries appears to suggest my issue has not been experienced before. It would therefore seem I have done (or not done) something properly but am at a loss as to what that might be.
Any suggestions gratefully received.

Every time I've had a crash, it's had something to do with the A/V files I fed-in (one file works, another crashes Video Studio, etc.).
You may be able convert your file to a "better" format (i.e. HDV) before editing. You can try opening the file and saving it in a less-compressed format, and then re-open the new file for editing. Or, if Video Studio crashes when doing this, you may need to convert the file with a 3rd-party program before editing. (then, you should be able to render your final output in any format of your choice.)
You didn't mention what format you're feeding in, or what format you want out (MPEG-2, MPEG-4, HDV, etc.). In general, the more-compressed more-advanced formats seem to cause the most trouble (AVCHD, DivX, Xvid, MPEG-4, etc.). From what I'm seeing on the forum, some variations of AVCHD seem to be currently causing the most trouble.
Less-compressed formats like DV & HDV tend to be the most trouble-free. Again, I'm talking about the format you are editing or converting from. You can usually convert to any format that Video Studio supports.

Re: Pro X3 appcrash StackHash_2ec8
Thanks for the reply DougDVD.
I'm feeding in H.264 in AVI container at full HD from a HD camcorder and want H.264 out (not fussed about the container - AVI, M4V, MKV will all be okay with me).
The editing process does not cause any issues with my H.264 files. I can add filters, trim, overlay etc without issue.
X3 doesn't give me any opportunity to choose an output format since it crashes the very instant I click on Create Video File button.

Re: Pro X3 appcrash StackHash_2ec8
Just to add... having read the post on 'Authoring - VSX3' it may be simply that I'm encountering the same issues as others (although the error reporting is slightly different) and that Corel is soon to release an alternate authoring method that could offer a solution.
I thought perhaps I could make further progress with X3 if I didn't use H.264 files. I dragged a 6 second clip from the X3 supplied video files and the clicked on Create Video File. No luck. Same crash but different StackHash faulty module.
I'll wait the 'few weeks' and see what Corel come up with on the assumption my problem is linked with authoring issue known by Corel.

Hi
There have been issues with Quick Time and X3
View Here
It may be worth reverting Quick Time to an earlier version

And I am puzzled why you would want what seems to be originally AVCHD (i.e. HD mpeg-4 video rendered with the h.264 codec), that you would want output in a format other than AVCHD (which would give you .m2ts or .mts)...

Re: Pro X3 appcrash StackHash_2ec8
Thanks for the suggestion Trevor. I'll look at my version of Quicktime and see if that solves my problem.
Ken: A bit off topic and I'm not an expert by any means but its my understanding .m2ts or .mts are simply containers for h.264. Its my current understanding that the quality of the audio/video signal are unaffected by the container structure and thus it doesn't matter what container the h.264 file sits in. If that is correct the only real issue I can think of is whether my media server can play .m2ts, mts, avi, divx, xvid etc. In fact it can play all of these. I simply missed out in my original post I was equally happy to export to .m2ts or .mts as I am with the other containers - but didn't manage to get that far because VSX3 consistently crashes before giving me an option to export in any available format.
Well off topic but visited NZ earlier this year. Had a fantastic time and would love to go back again soon. Abseiling 110 metres into a cave system was the best.

Re: Pro X3 appcrash StackHash_2ec8
Unfortunately, updating Quicktime (it was last year's version) has not solved the original problem. Again, I used a VSX3 clip (testcard) for the test. This time VSX3 didn't crash the very instant I clicked on Create Video File as it usually does. There was a hive of hard drive accessing for about a second and then it crashed. This time the faulty module name is StackHash_5cbb.

Re: Pro X3 appcrash StackHash_2ec8
That may be the case, but if a codec which X3 uses will only "see" the m2ts or mts (or even mpg) container, then you may have problems if you have it wrapped in a different container...
Interestingly enough, I have done a Google search, as perhaps have you, for the "Fault Module StackHash_2ec8. Fault Module Version 0.0.0.0" error, but apart from a cross reference to this thread, there is no other thread in an otherwise absolutely voluminous Google search sequence...

Re: Pro X3 appcrash StackHash_2ec8
Thanks Ken. Yes, I did do a Google search and came up empty. Weird. My computer system is fairly standard. It was re-formatted when I installed Windows7 a few months ago and my other installed programs play nicely. Most times I'm stand-alone so I disable anti-virus and the firewall - enabling them only when attaching an external drive/USB memory stick or connecting my ethernet cable to the modem. I'm at a loss why it seems just me having this particular problem.
I should have 'lurked' longer on this forum before posting my comment about waiting for the new authoring package as a possible solution. I was wrong and it was, at the least, confusing the issue.
Using a test clip, It appears I will be able to export my project into an HD format so long as I use the 'HDV Recording' option. Though the output file options it provides are very limited. At least its not rendering (sic) VSX3 totally useless for my needs but I do want this issue fixed. I think I'll contact Corel support now and see what they can suggest.
