Totally Disappointed with Corel Video Studio X3

Post by csjoecho »

I have a project to make a DVD about our performance last week.

In the past, I was made such a performance DVD using my Ulead VideoStudio 8 (VS8). However, this software VS8 seem quite out-dated nowadays, and I would like to try something new to work with recent project. As a result, I download the Video Studio X3 (VSx3), have a try on it, and design to buy if it can work well......

On the video editing part, it is good. With compare with my old VS8, I can edit things faster, smoother...... it seem all better, and I think it is worth to buy it.......... however........

when I finished editing all the movies, and start to create a DVD......... the nightmare comes ............

what is it ? DVD Factory Pro 2010 ? I play around this rubbish software for 2hour, and finally, I have no idea what I am doing. Nothing I can control, I even cannot import my background image as the DVD menu background.... Cannot make the menu with no background music........... Cannot Burn the project to a ISO file (I do this when using VS8, I like to burn a DVD image to the HD first, and then burn DVD using the created image. It is much saver then burning directly to the DVD disc )........ I can do nothing that what I usually does with VS8..........

I just want create a simple DVD, add a movie to a DVD, define chapters, and show the chapters in the menu..... that is...... how simple work, but that rubbish make me very confuse, and waste me few hours play around it, and finally got nothing done......

OK, the story haven't end, after wasted few hours, I try to find answer in google.... It COST ME 30min-1hr read to read, and finally got some post in this forum about that rubbish DVD Factory Pro 2010, and some solution about patching the VSx3 with DVD MovieFactory 7se..... ok, let's patch it......

OMG.... where is the patch ? I search for 30mins, and finally got a post in this forum about clicking the right-top corner circle icon to make and update...... ok.... forget it.... let's update it, ....
following instruction to update....... done..... ok, let's try again to create a DVD using MF7se.........

OMG... how to open the MF7se.......... following instructions...... I open VSx3.... click on Create DISC............ what? still DVD Factory Pro 2010 coming out? where is the MF7se?? how to open it ??? I still have no idea how to open MF7se to create a simple DVD using that VSx3 .............RIGHT NOW

Why the VSx3 come with that rubbish DVD Factory Pro 2010? DO YOU MEAN I PAID FOR VSx3 is just Editing MOVIE, and not making a DVD? and need to PAID MORE to BUY a BETTER DVD Builder?
Ok, I WILL PAID for something that can editing movies, PLUS create a DVD.

IT WASTE MY TIME..........

There are Many many many software from different software house to do DVD publishing.... why I try VSx3 is because I used VS8 before, and it can solve my need. however, the DVD factory pro 2010 make me Totally Disappointed, it wasting my time, with nothing outcome........

why I buy it, why I don't use other software from others company ?

I am sorry your experience has been so negative. As you now know, Corel realised their mistake in including DVD Factory 2010, and made MF 7 SE available free of charge. However, that is only to registered users, and I believe that you are only using the trial download version. So you will not be able to download and install MF 7 SE. And yes, I know how crazy that sounds, since you would only buy VS X3 if you could try MF 7 SE out.

Yes, I think most people here will sympathize and will agree that Corel's product line-up and marketing are CONFUSING.

If Video Studio X3 doesn't meet your needs, I hope you can find something that works for you.

From their website, it looks like ALL of their audio/video programs (Video Studio, Movie Factory Digital Studio) do the same thing... They edit all video & make DVDs/Blu-Rays... How are you supposed to choose? As far as I know, there is no comparison chart to compare the programs against each other or against the competition. The only way to figure it out is download all of the trial versions.

It's been confusing for a long time. I was confused when I bought Ulead Movie Factory 3. After I bought it I realized that it had very limited editing, and I bought Video Studio 8. Then I bought Ulead DVD Workshop to make "more professional" DVDs.
why I buy it, why I don't use other software from others company ?
We are all Corel users, and we are here to help each other. We are not Corel employees and we are not here to "sell" their products. Before you upgrade it's always a good idea to try the new version of Video Studio and try the competition too! Many of us also use software from other companies. I'm now using DVD authoring software from another company. Since DVD Workshop is obsolete, I now use DVD-Lab ($100 - $250 USD.)

I sympathise too. As someone who has X2 I read all the stuff on here about X3 and it convinced me not to go near the product.

What made me angry is I am already a vs8 user, and I suppose vs x3 is a newer version of vs8, that suppose can do what vs8 can do, and can do better with more function, template. That is what attract me to download vs x3 a try, cost time to learn a new system, and want to paid for a newer system.

How can u expect a newer system can do fewer things? Although it is a free trial, however it cose me few days time to work on it, learn it, and search and reading from web. An finally the results is the system can not do that, but the older version vs8 can does.

Also that make my work far behide schedule.

Anyway, let me try other solution. Thanks

I'm a user of X2 and it's been working fine and serves my needs. I won't go near X3 and rather wait for the next upgrade when-ever that may happen.

I was really upset about the burning module fiasco when it happened but Corel did fix it by releasing a separate module. So hats off to them. I still think it was a stupid idea in the first place but hopefully they learned from this experience.

After the fix, it didn't change much for me. I always saved projects to rendered files and then burned them as a separate operation anyway. The fact that I go to a different program to do that doesn't change much for me.

Aside from the burning module, the program has been stable for me and works well. I do wish it took advantage of ATI Stream and I would hope that true multi-monitor support happens sooner rahter than later.

csjoecho...most of us who bought studio x3 have experienced the difficulties you have gone through. I use x3 for editing, because i like
some of the new features...but do not use the dvd burning module. I use movie factory 6 to burn my dvd's. It is that easy. I did
receive the upgraded mf7se free, but did not like it.

Hi all,
I am totally confused. I have been using VS for years and have put up with the bugs etc, but it has done the job. I purchased VS Pro X3. I can not work out how to make and ISO file in either DVD Factory Pro 2010 or DVD MovieFactory 7 SE.

If anyone can give me some advice I would really appreciate it.

Thanks for your help.

Regards Ray
