WinDVD 2010 Pro - runtime error BluRay disc

Post by supZ »

Hi all,

Hoping for a little advice.

I recently got X-Men 3 last stand (no accounting for taste) on BluRay and attempted to play it the other night but had no end of issues and I'm now stumped.

Key thing to note, I've played BR and normal DVDs from my pc many times with no problem.

PC: Windows 7 Enterprise 32bit, 4gb ram, 8800GT, 2TB+ (1.3T+ free) HDD space
WinDVD Pro 2010: Version: 10.0.5.544.114934 ( for Corel )

The story goes, I put the disc in, WinDVD auto ran, found it, the splash screen came up (incidently it told me my mouse may not be supported by this title and to use the keyboard, no probs - i have since enabled the mouse emulation for BD titles).

So here I am with a screen asking if i want to play the film, view scenes, etc.. the usual.

I press the down key to change to scenes and WinDVD crashes. I've tried hitting enter, other keys.. basically any input (with mouse emulation on even hovering over a link crashes it) causes it to crash with the following error:

http://img233.imageshack.us/img233/1133 ... prosp4.jpg

I looked through some suggestions on these boards and did the following:

# uninstalled using Revo
# used CCleaner to remove any registry items
# reinstalled
# upgraded via various service packs to latest (didnt have to install sp1, twas already installed in my verison, but accepted sp3 and then sp4)

same problem

i've tried running it in various compatability modes for the hell of it with no joy and now im at a bit of a loss.

So, if any of you could offer some advice or suggestion that would be great.

If you need any more info please ask

Many Thanks

- Have you tested with any other BD movies?
- Have you updated the drivers for your video card?
- Have you tested by doing a clean boot?
- Do you have any DVD/BD Ripping software on the system? I have seen where software that deals with DRM ripping and other tasks will cause WinDVD to crash or not launch.

To troubleshoot this issue I would recommend doing the following:
- Test WinDVD with a different BD movie
- Update the video card drivers from Nvidia.com
- Update Direct X from Microsoft using the link below:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/d ... layLang=en
- Perform a Windows clean boot using the MSCONFIG command
- Select: Start | In the Search programs and files box type: msconfig | Select: msconfig | Select: Services tab | at the bottom left enable: Hide all Microsoft services | Select: Disable All (Bottom right) | Scroll through the list and re-enable "Protexis Licensing V2" (This services is needed to run WinDVD) | Select: Startup tab | Select: Disable all | Reboot the system | Test WinDVD

- To re-enable the normal start: Select: Start | In the Search programs and files box type: msconfig | Select: msconfig | Enable normal startup | Select: OK | Reboot the system

Try the above and let me know what happens
- If you still get the same error trying checking the Windows event viewer
- Select: Start | In the Search programs and files box type: event viewer | Select: Event viewer from the list | Expand: Windows Logs | Select: Application
- Check the error that was generated for WinDVD, post the faulting module or the whole error message that is listed. This will give us a better idea what is happening.

supZ -

There is a way to disable Protexis without adversely affecting WinDVD:

http://bit.ly/17iduQ

By disabling Protexis, you can run DRM circumvention software (assuming you have a valid exemption under the DMCA to utilize such software).

hi, thanks for the replies.

to answer your questions

- Have you tested with any other BD movies? yes, i've not had this problem with any others, in fact im playing avatar right now that was bought on the same day (same publisher too)
- Have you updated the drivers for your video card? yes, on latest drivers
- Have you tested by doing a clean boot? pc's been on and off many times. was shutting down whilst uninstalling and reinstalling etc.. just to be sure it cleared everything out
- Do you have any DVD/BD Ripping software on the system? I have seen where software that deals with DRM ripping and other tasks will cause WinDVD to crash or not launch.

i dont have any ripping software loaded no, the nearest thing i have is alcohol 52% which i use to mount iso's (virtual drive). as its not 120% it doesnt have image making/ripping functionality.

i'll look into the Protexis thing and see what i can do with it.

thanks

Hello,

I have a similar problem when I try to play the "Yellowstone" BluRay from BBC (UK Version).

Playback of Intro, Copyright Info and BBC HD Intro is ok. After that, it says "for Audio Navigation press Enter" and WinDVD 2010 Pro crashes, reporting a VB Runtime Error.

Other BluRays play ok.

Any hints how to solve the problem?

I'm using the (OEM?) WinDVD Version, which came with my Sony Vaio Notebook.

Tnx

It isn't a support forum. It appears that you thought that you would get an answer from Corel here, but this isn't their support forum... it's a user to user forum. Despite a couple of Corel people who sometimes visit, informally and in their own time, everyone here is just another user like you. Sometimes none of us know the answer. If you want an answer from Corel you need to go to http://corel.custhelp.com/.
