Holy Smoke!! added a color frame; much data zapped!!

Post by mbrien »

Yikes !! Heeeeeeeeeelllpp !!!

So I was just wrapping up a huge VS X2 project .... decided to simply add a "white color" fade-out ... just a final touch ...... added ..checked it .. saved it ...
went to rewind and replay ... kicked back and hit play:

YIKE!!! all my [split] audio; all my text additions; all my photo inserts were gone up in smoke!!

Aw man ... hours of work ... poof ... gone

Does anyone know why adding a selection from the "color" menu ... at the end of the video track would zap all my accessory tracks???

Thanks,

Michael

Nope. It should not have happened. Adding colour panels at the beginning and end of a video project -- indeed throughout -- is a standard feature of VS, used probably on a regular basis (if not just about always, as in my case) by most users. And this is the very first time I have heard of anything like this happening...

I guess you did not try pressing the Undo button or Edit menu>Undo, or Control Key + Z ? This might have taken you back to where you had all that data, then you could have Saved your project, and tried again to add the color clip.

Thanks for the replies ...

yeah ... my bad ... didn't do the "UNDO" in time ...

hmm ,... not sure what happened .. but I've noticed quirky happenings when I've added a color (or something..?) and I've suddenly found some data gone ... (usually extracted audio) ... but not all the time .. hence my inattentiveness ... wasn't much of an issue before .. figured I did it inadvertantly somehow.

... otherwise it's a great program to work with, and I really enjoy all the features.

back to the drawing board ...

Hi Michael

As mentioned in other posts the colour options are standard and are used extensively.
First time I have heard of colour clips causing any problems let alone such dramatic ones.
You haven’t by any chance saved various versions of the project and opened an earlier one by mistake.

Otherwise the first thing I would do is a virus scan on the pc.

You don’t indicate any details of your pc specification, these can be applied by updating your profile. Can you do that for us please…….

Thank for that;

Well, I think I'll tinker around with it ... carefully examine my progress ...see what step(s) may duplicate the occurrance ... return to the forum w/my findings.

Fairly new computer w/ full viral scan stuff ...

Here is my guess. When one inserts lots of photos into the timeline, VS leaves those items all selected. Unless you click somewhere, they stay selected. If you leave them selected and then add something else like a color panel it will replace all that is selected. Perhaps that is what happened to you? Al
