WOW!

Post by auggybendoggy »

I've got to say I'm really impressed with Corel PSP. I'm currently learning Lightroom 3 and have found that Corel is not far behind in image editing. It's sharpening is out of this world good for the price of the program. I think it's interface might be it's only handicap but then again I'm comparing appels and oranges. LR3 is not photoshop. So comparing PSP to LR is not fair. But nevermind all that. The fact that Corel does such a good just makes me really appreciate it.

That's good to hear, from a long-time PSP user like myself :D

The user interface takes a little getting used to but then it rolls and rolls...
Once you have got the hang of the basics, you can tailor the interface using the 'Customize' function in many ways
including your own Menus and Palettes and then you can add your own Scripts too 8)

Excellent program. Being a long time picture publisher user I always veered in the other direction with Photoshop. Too many tools and interface was so non-dynamic. But since I purchased lightroom and now I've actually made a point NOT TO install Picture Publisher 10 - in order to force myself to PSP, I am very impressed.

I imagine coupling it with Nik's software would be out of this world.

Seriously the sharpening tools in this program are right on par with lightroom and I imagine Nik's sharpening and Lightroom and neck and neck - my point being Corel's not to be frowned upon. I'd love to see a more serious plug-ins then the old Kai photo soap stuff that comes with the ultimate edition. I know Nik's is in but I'd love to see more pro integrated stuff. But then again, that's just me.

All in all i'm finding out it's a serious program.

quick question.

Is there a setting so that when a preview menu opens up it's default to 15% zoom rather than 100? Like applying infrared. I always have to lower the zoom level to see the preview. I'd like it to always open up at 15%.

Sorry, Mr. Berry, but that post doesn't relate to auggybendoggy's question about the preview size. Unless you're talking about how the dialog boxes are inconsistent where the preview size is concerned possibly being a bug related to the different environments. He's talking about the preview area of the filter dialog boxes.

Sadly I don't know of a setting for this default value. Especially since the Brightness/Contrast dialog defaults to a smaller default zoom size than the Infrared one.

So I don't know of a way to get that to default however just hit the little button next to it (the one that looks like a window with arrows pointing to all of its edges) this will resize the preview so that the image fits in the preview window.

Mr. Levifiction is correct. Thanks for the tip on the fit to window buttion. Corel needs to add a selection box "always open fit to preview". That would be most helpful.

Guys, a few caveats I've got might be simple customization.
1) can I split screen to see before and after?
2) can EXIF information be displayed anywhere else other than the left bottom corner? I can't seem to get this pallet to pull out to place somewhere else.

Can you be a little more specific in your two questions?
Every filter has a 'Preview' Option showing the before and after image. Is that what you mean? (You have to click the 'Preview' option once for each filter).

Where are you trying to look at EXIF data? Have you used "Image Information" (Shift+I) in the full screen Editor?

BTW are you aware of the Preferences \ General Program Preferences \ View options for "Auto Size"?

I don't see what the auto-size settings have to do with anything. He asked about the dialog preview sizes but auto-size doesn't apply to them (I know, I have them checked and it doesn't change the situation) and Mr. Berry already pointed to the Images loading at 100% post if they were interested in knowing about that bug.

As for EXIF information, they refer to a palette. The only palette that I know of, and isn't an actual palette, that displays EXIF information is in the organizer. But on mine it's always on the Bottom Right not Bottom Left. In the General Info pane under Advanced Info.

If this is what they're referring to then you can't move it because it's not a palette in the traditional sense. True you can close it but that's about it. It's stuck where it is.

Now if your first question has anything to do with the Organizer so that you can see the original with your fixes next to it, no you're pretty much stuck with the view they gave you. If you're talking about the express lab...same thing. You're stuck with what they give you.

Now in the Full Editor you also cannot have a split view of an open image with before and after. You can, however, imitate a split view in the full editor.

First you need window mode not tabbed mode so go up to the menu and select Window and make sure the option Tabbed Documents is turned off. Now open an image and hit the key combo Shift+D. This will automatically create a duplicate of the current image in its own window. Now line them up side-by-side in the workspace and you have a fake split view. :D This is also great because it helps to preserve the original image from accidentally being overwritten with your changes as you can just apply the changes to the new image copy instead of the original. :D

Levi, the duplicate image in window mode will work. Not a big deal.

If I said bottom left on the general info I mean bottom right. And yes as I've played with it, I cannot seem to get the exif to display any other place then there or the pop up dialogue info box (hate that).

Guess these are just suggestions I'll have to make to Corel. I'm sure they've got hundreds of thousands of them :)
