Hello All,
I am currently using X3 and have recently come back from a holiday in Vegas where I took some Stitched Panoramic shots.
A number of these photos I can edit that are up to about 7000x4000 pixels without a problem. I have one image that is 29,909 x 14,310 pixels in a 275MB JPG File format. Which just makes X3 unresponsive, I have tried resizing the image to about 50% of the original image size however this just makes X3 unresponsive as well before cropping.
Does anyone know the largest image size that can comfortably be edited in X3? Or will I need to find someone using Adobe Photoshop to get these images processed.
Thanks in advance...

Re: X3 Largest Editable Image Size
Just a shot in the dark but try clicking Image > Delete Alpha Channel. I don't know why this screws with PSP so much but with the much smaller stitches that I do that seems to free up the program from it's sluggishness and releases some RAM.
Regards, Dan

How did you produce your Stitched Panorama?
Doesn't the software allow you to resize smaller?

Re: X3 Largest Editable Image Size
@df - I do not have the option to Delete Alpha Channel the item is in Grey on the menu...
@Tadjio I am not able to resize the document as X3 gives me the following error,
Not enough memory to complete this operation; close one or more documents or application an try again. If this does not correct the problem, you may need to adjust your memory settings or work on a smaller document.
Memory is not an issue in Windows Task Manger as X3 is using 1,330,780KB in memory, however I have over 5GB free on my 8GB system.
I have been trying to find in X3 where you can adjust the memory settings without luck - I have checked under File > Preferences without any luck... Does anyone know where this is?
-- I am currently using the demo version of Kolor Autopano 2.09 for the Stitched Panorama.

Re: X3 Largest Editable Image Size
PSPP X3 is a 32 bit application, so no matter how much memory you have installed, it can only use 2 GB of it. Despite your JPG being only 275MB, PSP, like all image editors, doesn't work with the compressed JPG. It has to decompress the image to a bitmap before it can work on it. It will create a 8 bit per channel background layer which will need 3 bytes for each pixel... one each for red, green and blue. For your image that bitmap will be 29909 x 14310 x 3 = 1,283,993,370 bytes or 1.2 GB.Maverick wrote:Memory is not an issue in Windows Task Manger as X3 is using 1,330,780KB in memory, however I have over 5GB free on my 8GB system.
Because the process of decompressing a JPG is very memory intensive, you will find that PSP will use less memory while opening the file if your file is in a format such as PSPIMAGE or TIF.
There aren't any memory setting preferences. Photoshop allows you to see how much memory is available to the program, change the percentage that it uses, and to set "scratch disks" to use when it runs out of RAM. PSP has none of these and can only use the Windows paging file and the Windows virtual memory settings when it runs out of RAM.Maverick wrote:I have been trying to find in X3 where you can adjust the memory settings without luck - I have checked under File > Preferences without any luck... Try setting Autopano to output the image as an 8 bit per channel TIF with no layers. You might even consider getting it to resize the panorama too. Currently your image could be printed as a 12 foot by 6 foot image that would look great to a viewer only 2 feet away from it. Unless you intend to use the image for a huge gallery print that will be viewed from arms length, you will be able to get Autopano to resize the image to a more suitable and workable size as it renders it.Maverick wrote:-- I am currently using the demo version of Kolor Autopano 2.09 for the Stitched Panorama.

I was referring to your stitched panorama software i.e. Kolor Autopano 2.09 in your case.Tadjio wrote: How did you produce your Stitched Panorama?

Re: X3 Largest Editable Image Size
Yes they can. The render settings for Autopano, right at the top, give you a way to specify either the percentage of the original size or the actual pixel dimensions.
The help files actually recommend a percentage of 70% to 50% in some cases. As is the ability to select a format such as uncompressed TIFF should they decide to do so.

Re: X3 Largest Editable Image Size
Thank you everyone for your help, I will look at resizing the image in Autopano and giving it a TIFF File Extension and then modifying it in X3.
My next wish item would be to give us the ability to allocate memory to the application or even better make a x64 release so we can edit large images without the need to re-size as it will use the available system memory.
Anyways, thanks again everyone.
