The Library

Post by cgflembo »

I am using VS12 and when I transfer my video from the computer hard drive into the library of VS it does not seem to be a problem. With hundreds of thumbnails in the library that I have transferred just for one project, there isn`t any problems if I start editing right away. The problem is when I boot up the computer again and restart VS half(if not more) of the thumbnails are not in the library and have to be re-loaded again, which is annoying. Is this a common problem? or am I doing something wrong, can the library only hold a certain amount? There is plenty of spare hard drive space, so I don`t think that is the problem.

I have never heard of this problem, although I never used X2 much (pretty much went from v10 to X3).

What kind of clips are you dealing with? How did you capture them?

I don't know what the actual limit is but I am very interested to know why you need hundreds of thumbnails in the library for one project - my video and image libraries have very few thumbnails in them, just ones which I may want to use reguarly - and even for project libraries I would only have 4 or 5 thumbnails, where do the hundreds come from.

In defense of cgflembo, when I capture a season's worth of a sporting event I will have 100-200 thumbnails in my library (I actually just did a quick count and I am over 200 for this soccer season, with 1 game to go). I will not use them all in the project, but they are there for me to choose from.

... and I might add that I too regularly have more than 150 - 200 clips in the library for even what might turn out to be a 10 - 15 minute final video. I split my incoming video by scene, and this of course creates lots of small clips. I regard this as completely normal and have been doing it as long as I have been video editing. Moreover, it has never caused me any trouble...

When I transfer the video from my hard drive camcorder it does so in thumbnails for each scene I take, so after a 2 week holiday amounts to quite a few takes, hence the amount of thumbnails transferred. So I`m guessing that no one else has this problem, regardless of how many thumbnails.Which makes me think that it could be a problem with my version of VS12 or my computer.

Hi

Video Studio X2’s Library Manager allows you to export the library.
Tools Library Manager-Export Library.

This creates a copy of the library, save these files to a folder on your desktop.

If you re-boot VS and find the library is missing thumbnails, import the saved library, does this include the missing thumbnails?

Your library files are called:-
VS_Video.dat
VS_Image.dat
Etc
For XP they are here:-
C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio\12.0
Not exactly sure of the location using Vista, but will be similar.

Check the files to make sure Read Only is not selected.

By the way, have you manually updated Direct X,
Even though your system may indicate the latest Direct X the manual approach does cure some strange/odd happenings with VS.

There is a post/link at the top of this forum.
From the Direct X site choose the "DirectX Redist (June 2010)" option.
First create a folder on your desktop.
Download the file, run to extract the files, Run the DXSETUP.exe to install.
