ProX3 FILM LOOK FX Feature missing?

Post by levisurfer »

Hey guys
Just upgraded from VS10 and looking though the FX features I can't seem to find the FILM LooK FX Feature in PROX3.
This was a very useful feature and included KODACHROME and EKTACHROME, SCI-FI, FILM NOIR effects as well as a number of other very useful pre-formatted effects.
Am I looking in the wrong place or do I need to download this ?

Can anyone else advise if there are other things missing?
Thanks

I assume you don't mean any of the effects included in FX > Camera Lens, such as Old Film, Duotone or Monochrome?

I have VS10 and it has none of the features you mention. Did you add some plug-ins?

That's what had me puzzled too -- I could not recall any of these features from VS10, and I was wondering if levisurfer was simply referring to the sort of effects that could be achieved, rather than filters or FX with these actual names... :?:

Hi guys

Thanks for your replies.
OK - first things first - an apology!
This feature FILM LOOK was in VS PRO X2.
It was in the FX section under FILM LOOK and had some beauties as KODACHROME, EKTACHROME, SCI-FI, FILM NOIR, BLEACHED etc to name only 5 or so.
I don't recall downloading it as a "special" , thinking it was already included on the PRO X2 DVD that I actually purcahsed in a store!

I am also now thinking that most of these effects in FILM LOOK can be replicated in PRO X3 - but it was a handy feature that let you add it to your clip immediately.

I can find no mention of it on Corels website.

Thanks again

 Yes, it is definitely in X2... However, Corel changed its arrangement with NewBlue, who made that particular filter, and as I have already said, provided the P-in-P filter, as well as some others, this time round. Undoubtedly a question of licensing fees, and probably because more people were after P-in-P than would have used the Film Look filter. Though it looks interesting, I confess that I never once used it, whereas I use the P-in-P one regularly.

Hiya Ken

Many thanks for clarifying that point for me and sorry for my initial confusion.

I will look closer at the P-in-P filter and see what it does.

Thanks again.

Just to be clear, the P-in-P filter is totally unrelated to the Film Look one. You would have to use other filters to achieve what the latter could do. But P-in-P is pretty nifty and can give your videos an extra professional look...

Thanks Ken,
Yes I will look and play with P in P, but will mis FILM Look as I did use it quite a bit.

However I do find Corels pricing policy for its products and upgrades frustrating though and nearly went to one of their rivals this time round.

Having already paid for these FILM LOOK features in PRO X2, and then finding myself having to upgrade to PRO X3 because some of the functions of 2 would not work with WIN7, I am paying out again vitually the same price once more (less a small token Upgrade reduction amount) for virtually the same product with one of 2 minor upgrade features, but with some other functions that I have already paid for now no longer there!
Surely it would be fairer to ask existing users or previous products to pay just an "upgrade" amount, rather than the token reduction - especially as the product is very similar to its previous versions.
I know its a marketing strategy to pay for research and development etc, but this time I was seriously considering moving across to one of Corel's rivals for a complete change!
Thanks for lsitening to my rant.

No problems! But I trust you realise that none of us who 'work' here are Corel employees... We are just users like you who volunteer our time to help out other users... I also understand -- and share -- your views about upgrade policies, though would have to say that Corel is not alone in this. One or two of the competition -- that I have been tempted by!! -- don't even have a notional upgrade price for previous users. You have to pay the full price for each version, regardless...

If you still have VS X2 installed on a PC, you could try copying the NB Film effects VFT files to VS X3's vft_plug folder. Looking at VS X2's vft_plug folder, these should be the following:
