I have Corel Videostudio Pro X2 and VISTA with plenty of memory and space. For the last few months I have been able to render ntsc WMV. videos in HD from mpeg-2 ntsc clips saved on my computer. I click WMV HD 720 30p and the video renders in HD with a 1280 frame width and 720 height width. All plays well.
Windows Media Video
24 bits, 1280 x 720, 16:9, 20 fps
Frame-based
22.050 KHz, 16 bits, Stereo
I have not changed anything (that I know of) and now when I render videos in the same format from the same original clips as before, my video outcome is NOT in HD and the frame width is 208 and the height is 60, even though I burn in WMV HD 720 30p and the foramt reads 24 bits, 1280 x 720, 16:9, 20 fps.
I have inserted the Corel CD and clicked repair and restarted, no change.
I have checked my project properties which read;
Edit format- Mpeg files
NTSC drop frame (29.97 fps)
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps
Lower Field First
(DVD-NTSC), 16:9
I do not know what else to do as I never changed anything that I am aware of. The orginal clips that I created my videos from before are the same clips, so my capture source is not the problem.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions and aid.

Hi
Some things to consider:-
Have you changed anything relating to Windows Media Player or Windows Media Encoder? Pc’s auto updates etc.
Update Windows Media Player to the latest version.
From VS --- If you use the Custom option and select to create Wmv are you able to select the HD 720 profile?
Have you manually installed the latest Direct X, there is a post at the top of this forum.
Do a Clean Install of Video Studio rather than a repair.

Re: Corel Videostudio Pro X2 frame and quality problem
Hi Mr. Andrew, thank you for answering. My media player has been updated, but a few weeks ago I deleted Windows Media Encoder because I never used it. Is this my problem? Must I reinstall this?
When I render a video I click on share- create a video- wmv -wmv hd 720 30p and this used to work fine but now the quality is poor and the frames are much smaller then they should be.
We have 9c direct x.
If I uninstall Video Studio, will this delete my projects?
Thanks again for your help and time.

Hi
Some codecs are installed to the pc when installing Windows Media Player and the Encoder.
Windows Media Encoder may be the problem as this is the only thing you have changed.
When you say "I deleted Windows Media Encoder because I never used it" do you mean uninstall the encoder???
I would install again just in case this adds the correct HD 720 option.
Direct X, if you have not manually installed this then I urge you to do so.
The manual install has been known to cure some strange problems occuring Video Studio.

Re: Corel Videostudio Pro X2 frame and quality problem
A trillion times, thank you.
I have had this problem for a year with my Videostudio X4- then X5 (I upgraded when it was on sale, partly because I hoped it would solve the problem, since one day my clips worked in HD- then BAM! Horrible quality, even worse than broadband and with the same 4:3 ratio.)- email support at Corel didn't seem to know what I was talking about or how to fix it and suggested I pay to get a technician to help me, my friends didn't know how to fix it or even what went wrong, my family couldn't help. Off and on over the months I would keep trying to find advice to solve the problem.
Finally I did a google search, found this old thread, and followed your advice.
For the first time in almost a year I again have WMV in HD!! *throws a party
I have really missed it since it flows much more smoothly than rendering in MP4 HD- which is better quality for clips, clearer pic and more colorful, but not as good for speed, which I needed everything to hit on beat.
Thanks again.
