Exporting to HD video file

Post by Aperture_Star »

Hello All,

So like many new videographers is am shooting with the 5d markII which obviously shoots in HD.

However i cant seem to export my HD file out of VideoStudio.

When i drag the clip onto the timeline and right click on the clip and go to properties it says it is in 1920x1080. However when i go to create a video file ans click same as video settings it exports it to 720x480 at 29.97 frames per second. And the video was shot at 24fps.

So..
a) i don't understand why it is exporting it to totally different specs that what the project really is?
b) how to i export to an mpeg file that is 1920x1080 from VideoStudio.

Thanks so much for your responses.

same as video settings
There is no such setting in VS. You can either go to Share > Create Video File and then choose "Same as Project Properties" (which will certainly NOT give you 1920 x 1080 output since you can't set Project Properties to have that frame size) or else Share > Create Video File > Same as First Clip (if you are using that size/format video) or Custom and set the output properties you want... or even Share > Create Video File > AVCHD, since this is apparently the format of video you are using.

However, in the latter case, I would be careful since VS sometimes sets a lower variable bitrate than your camera might have used. For instance, your camcorder might use the latest AVCHD maximum bitrate of 24 mbps, but VS might only have a max VBR of 18 mbps... And a lower bitrate inevitably means a lower quality output.

Hey Ken and Community,

Thank you very much for your reply.

I tried to do Share > Create Video File > Same as First Clip, However the Same as first Clip field was greyed out and could not be selected. Why is that?

I then went ahead and tried the AVCHD output however i could not play the outputted file on any of my players. Quicktime, Window media player, etc. So i don't know how to play that file.

Just so you understand what exact clips i am working with. I am pulling in a 55mb quicktime movie directly from my 5dmarkII and exporting it directly without any editing.

I think the Custom setting is the best option for me. With the Custom export under the options i did the below settings

Under General Tab:

Encoder: Ulead Mpeg Now Encoder
Data Track: Audio and Video
Frame Rate: 24 frames/second
Frame Type: Lower field First -- Can someone explain what this is
Frame size: standard (1920x1080)

Under Compression Tab:

Media Type: Mpeg-2
Quality: 100
Video Data rate: Constant at 60,000 -- i just put the highest, is this right, how do i find out the video data rate of the original file.
Does putting the video data rate at the max give it better quality?
Audio type: Stereo
Audio Frequency: 48000
Audio Bit Rate: 384 (max setting, again does the max help)

I know this is a little bit of a detailed question. However i think it will help a lot of new users who are trying to figure out the best way to export their HD files.

Thanks so much to any assistance you can offer.
