Problems in activating PSPx3

Post by johnfairweather »

This is a problem that I have been having since the 21st September, it is now 12th October - I have been in touch with Corel's Tech support but they can't seem to solve the problem.

In May 2010, I installed PSPx3 on to my Windows XP PC. In June 2010, I had my PC upgraded to Windows 7 (and installed Office 2010). When I re-installed PSPx3, I then got an 'Activate Now' message, with gave me 22 days left, though the program worked ok. Clicking on Activate, I got another message saying 'OK', but the 'Days Left' still continued downwards. When I tried to activate it by phone, the system displayed a blank 'Installation Code', so Tech support couldn't help me. The only solution Corel gives me, was to use their Clean-Up code and to re-install it under 'Admin' on my PC. This I have done, without the 'Activate Now' message going away and I am about to dive into the Registry to try again.

I have attached some screenshots.

Also Corel seems to be releasing new PSPx3 software/updates every few months, with a cost, I can't see why some of this can't be free. Also, it might be an idea for Corel to solve this problem, before new software is released. (Why call a new version 'Ultimate', when another new version comes out weeks later, this doesn't seem very good policy to me.)

I am a software engineer/tester (& website designer) by profession and these things do annoy me.

Hi,

I am having exactly the same problem. I installed on Windows XP in July 2010, and upgraded to Windows 7. I get the same blank message box, and when entering the activation code that was given when I installed on XP, I get the following message:

The Activation Code you have provided is invalid. Please try again, or visit http://www.corel.com for information on contacting customer service.

I have a support ticket in progress with Corel, but so far the issue has not been resolved.

If it matters, I'm using Windows 7 64-bit.

I would really appreciate any help to resolve this issue.

Thanks,
Brian

For what it´s worth I read somewhere that 64 bit does not work with X3. If I´m wrong I apologise.

According to the Corel system information for PSPx3, http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite/ ... bview=tab6, 64 bit is supported. I was intrigued by your reply, so I checked it out. Granted, that is the Ultimate edition, but certainly the version I bought barely over three months ago would be also.

X3 does work with Windows 64-bit. Don't worry about that.

I can only imagine you've read that X3 is still only a 32-bit program, but those do still work with 64-bit Windows.

Or you've read comment from people making the assumption that they're using 64-bit Windows and that's what their problems are.

Simone,

Finally, I found time to install PSPx3 from the CD you sent me. It now works OK and the blank Activation page now does not appear.

I also did purchase your Ultimate add-ons.

Regards,

John

John, I'm glad that you had success getting PSPx3 installed on Windows 7.

Simone, if there is any way you can offer me assistance, I would greatly appreciate it. I have yet to hear back from Corel's customer support ever since my initial question.

If it helps, my support reference number is 101025-000119.

Thanks Brian,

Incidentally, downloading the 'Ultimate add-ons' crashed my NTLWorld web mail server, though I think I installed them correctly. After a time, I got fed with the whole install business of PSPx3, their clean-out registry tool (in my opinion) doesn't clean out all of the corel registry.

Thanks for the heads up about the Ultimate upgrade. At this point, I fear I may be out $60. While the application worked very well under Windows XP, it simply will not activate under Windows 7 for me. I am really surprised that others have not had similar experiences. I'm also extremely disappointed in the lack of support as well. Until they fix this problem, I just cannot see me recommending this product to anyone using Windows 7. That is a shame since it is a decent tool.

I have had reinstallation problems after using the removal tool, all the directions to successfully reinstall have not worked. [after giving up on crashes and deciding to reinstall] Won't accept serial numbers. Redoing it all after waiting for corel support reply. Still no luck. A shame, really, because I have been a 10 year fan of PSP. One more try at this tomorrow and then I am done with Corel. Too many hours expected of us here. Win7 compatibilities are a big problem also. Ridiculous for Corel to know of these problems and they not immediately allowing a password number to reinstall, not alone the time involved trying to jump through hoops for hours to get the program installed properly.

I have exactly the same problem: the activation fails with blank message and blank installation code, no proper support from Corel.
Attaching a log that has been sent to Corel, hopefully it gives some clues as to the reason of activation failures. The log is created in ..\Users\username\AppData\Local\Temp every time I try to activate.

I am sorry to say that I had the same problem. Here is what I did to fix it with Win7 x64 Home Edition

1. Uninstall ALL Corel software (I only had Painter X which I have a disk for so it was no big deal)
2. Make sure that you can see hidden files and folders
3. Open your system drive
4. Search for "Corel"
5. In the search results, find the FOLDERS named Corel (There should be some in the user directories under AppData and ProgramData and maybe in TEMP
6. Delete ALL of the Corel FOLDERS
7. Reinstall PSPx3

After I did this it started without a problem, hope this helps.

Thank you! As far as I remember I tried removing everything Corel from my PC, both filesystem and registry, but it didn't to work for me :(
Anyway, Corel already sent me an installation disk so that I don't have to activate on-line.
