For documentation purposes here is how I overcame this problem which evidently, from other contributions in these forums, doesn't happen very often but causes much consternation when it does. It happened for me first In MovieFactory 6+, then in version 7, and I would assume in VideoStudio X2 CreateDisc function as well, though I never tried this. I am not saying that this is the only reason but this is how I fixed mine:
I had already successfully written a VS X2 project to standard DVD Video using DVDMF6+. As my source files were actually AVCHD format I then tried to write the mpg files in VS X2 using AVCHD format (1920). I had done this before in other projects, subsequently writing them using DVDMF6+ on several occasions to a single-layer DVD. This time I tried to use a Dual Layer DVD for the first time as my total size was > 4Gb. This was when I started getting 'Internal error in the DVD engine' during the multiplexing stage. I assumed it was a DL problem but after 3 attempts and 3 new coasters (DVDMF6+ can only write to disc in the case of AVCHD) I decided to download the trial version of DVDMF7 which will write an AVCHD file structure. I continued to get the error. But examining the folders I found that it had written some (but not all) of one of the AVCHD mpg files in the AVCHD STRM folder, i.e the failing one before DVDMF7 crashed. When I had at first been writing straight to disc with DVDMF6+ it had also written the files then, but not got as far as recording the index, so DVDMF7 was what helped to trace the fault. By playing back the recorded 'short' file I could then precisely trace back the location of the error to a few frames at the end of a single clip in an m2ts file from my (Canon HF100) video camera. As I was merely panning across an empty field at that point I cut out the 1-2 seconds from the clip, re-created the AVCHD file in VS X2 and burnt my disc using DVDMF6+. Why Corel's software doesn't like those few frames I have no idea (too much grass LOL?) but I don't really care as I have achieved what I set out to do. I don't think Corel would have been able to fix it easily as they would probably need to have looked at my AVCHD clip - the message is not very informative I'm afraid.
Anyway I hope this may help someone who gets this in similar circumstances to overcome the problem.
Internal error in the DVD engine
Re: Internal error in the DVD engine
I have taken numerous clips at a rowing regatta using a Sony DCR - SR200 (mpeg files) and a Panasonic DMC - FZ38 (m2ts files). I download the files (approx 50/50 of each) into VS X3 and edit accordingly. Once finished I create a video file using the setting -same as first video clip - and transfer it to MF 7SE. I then add chapters and menus using the following project settings:
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 576, 25 fps
Frame-based
(DVD-PAL), 16:9
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 7000 kbps)
LPCM Audio, 48000 Hz, Stereo
The video format is DVD Standard Definition
If I burn a disc or create a disc image it comes up with the following message when it reaches 18% on the multiplexing stage - 'internal error in the DVD engine'
I made a video of the junior races first, using the same settings as above, and it came out great. The senior races is almost identical to the juniors but this error message comes up every time.
Any assitance is appreciated.
The size of the file is approximately 4 GB.
