VS X2 image files not working
Recently I discovered that the swf flash animation files were no longer linked. After re-installing the flashplayer off the VS disk they are working again. I decided I should check out all the rest of the files and found 5 VS image files that are not working. They show up in the pull down menu, but the preview is only a white screen. I found them on the computer files and copied then into VS, but still only a white preview. I can see them using Windows Live Photo Gallery just fine so they are in the computer, but VS just won't open them correctly. Any ideas?

Re: VS X2 image files not working
It would help if you would give us their names so we can check them to see if they show in our own versions of X2...

Sure, they're image 120,121,122,123,125. I'm pretty sure they worked when I first got VS. Just wondering what's going on.

Is your DirectX up to date? Sometimes preview issues are linked to DirectX, although I admit I have never heard it affecting image files.

Re: VS X2 image files not working
And certainly all of those images still display properly in my X2...And they work both in preview and when dragged into the timeline.
(BTW, in fact the first character is the capital letter I for Image, rather than the figure 1...)

Re: VS X2 image files not working
I looked at the properties of each image and the 5 that don't work have the encoding mode: progressive. Any ideas?

Re: VS X2 image files not working
Hi Colleen
I have had problems in the past with Progressive Jpegs, never did find out why.
I now only save my images as baseline.
I do not have a problem in viewing the images from the VS library.
As Jeff suggested have you manually updated Direct X.
This has been known to cure some strange issues with Video Studio.
I usually use the DirectX Redist (June 2010) option.
Download file
Run to extract files.
Run DXsetup.exe to install Direct X

Re: VS X2 image files not working
OK I updated Directx and nothing has changed. Are those 5 image files showing as progressive on everyone else's VS? If not why would they have changed from baseline on mine? Is there a way to change them back to baseline?

Re: VS X2 image files not working
Hi Colleen
The images show as Progressive on my installation, I am able to view them ok.
It is possible to resave the images as baseline by using an image editor, Photoshop for example. Usually this option is available from the save window.
I have just tried using the Paint program, resaving the images result in Baseline.
Although this will not cure the original problem..
Have you tried re-setting the library from Tools-Library Manager.

Re: VS X2 image files not working
I tried resetting the library, but nothing changed. Using Paint I did change the images and get them back on VS working, but I'm still bothered by what might have happened in the first place.

Hi Colleen
Sorry but I too do not understand why there are problems with Progressive images, for some users anyway.
At least you have a work-round and can use the images.

Re: VS X2 image files not working
Yes I did that when I got my new computer this spring, but my camcorder has been broken so I haven't really tried using VS until this past week or so.
