Proxy Files disappear between program uses

Post by jarshallen »

I've been doing some MTS editing for my boss, and have been using the proxy file feature as my PC doesn't run the videos properly without using DXVA (would be a nice feature, by the way. my media players use DXVA just fine but VideoStudio won't let me use it's hardware acceleration.)

Anyway, when I finish up for a day and save my project, render the final files, and close out the program, my proxy files get deleted by the next time I load it up. I can use these still, as I often need to go back to change things in the edit, and remaking them every time is kind of a waste of time. Is there a setting somewhere I am missing, or does VideoStudio just always delete these files when it decides to? I'd like to keep them around and have them selectable and usable as long as I say, not how long as it says.

Don't let VS create your proxy files. Turn it off and make your own. Which you can keep as long as you want. I have found letting VS create proxy files is not the best way to do it. Batch convert you MTS files to an easily editing format by converting them with the batch convert tool. I normally convert to standard deff mpeg. Put them in a folder called ???? project proxy files. Then when you are finished editing rename that folder. Then open the project and use the relink function to relink to the MTS files. I have used this process, which was originally posted by another user, many many times and find it much better than creating proxy files.

And that will work, keep my edits, so on? Even if I split the audio and edit that too? I can definitely see the overlays and text working fine. I'll give it a shot next time I edit I suppose. Thanks for the advice.
