Organizer & Tags
I've recently reinstalled Windows and PSP. In the organizer, the cataloging doesn't seem to be working - at least from a tag standpoint. My photos have tags on them and windows explorer sees all the tags but the tag list that is in the organizer only sees ones that I update with existing tags or add new tags to them. It does not seem to catalog the exisitng tags on photos. Any ideas?

Re: Organizer & Tags
Their are tags and there are tags. The organizer tags are to add keywords to the organizers data base to enable the searching by key words for files containing that keyword. The ones you see in Explorer are most likely Exif date Some of that is editable using the info button and exif tab . There is a plug in for explore to add some more tags to images etc. but they will only be readable in explorer and media player

Re: Organizer & Tags
So Organizer doesn't use EXIF tags? It has its own set of tags for cataloging your photos?
So you spend hours tagging your photos but if you ever reinstall then all that work is out the window?

Re: Organizer & Tags
It does display all Exif but there is very little you can add to Exif other then author and comments. Tags Tend to be iptc or mtae data. But the organizer uses a MS data base like you would find in Access therefor far better at searching for and displaying a list of thumbs that match one or more keywords

Re: Organizer & Tags
Funny - I don't see an answer to this question.GuyL wrote:So you spend hours tagging your photos but if you ever reinstall then all that work is out the window?
It is a simple fact that any OS will eventually need to be rebuilt, so is there any point at all tagging your pictures using Corel's system when you know it's eventuially going "out the Window"?
What is the point of Corel using their "own DB to improve performace" when the DB is basically a temporary structure? Improving performace is pointeless if it's not going to work at all the next day.
This seems like a really poor design decision. Don't you think it would be better to use existing PERMANENT tags, so that if you ever move to a new system, those tags are still there?

Re: Organizer & Tags
My answer is I've resorted to using Windows to organize and tag my photos. Upon further investigation it works better than Corel's "Organizer" anyway in this regard.

Re: Organizer & Tags
Thanks GuyL, I think you are right. And I don't mind hanging onto Windows Live Photo Gallery for organizing, especially since there are some nice features in the package such as the Photo Fuze (in the new beta) and panoramic stitching that are worth keeping.GuyL wrote:My answer is I've resorted to using Windows to organize and tag my photos. It just puzzles me why Corel would take the proprietory database approach to tagging. It really seems like a poor design choice.

Re: Organizer & Tags
the problem I have with the organzier is that is is not even capable to show the pictures in chronological order
The sorting capability (left down in organizer screen) does not seem to work without any problems.
Sorting on picture creation date, picture modification date, 'map', etc. , it does not matter, in all cases shown sequences contain many errors.
Beginners programming mistakes, sorry.

Re: Organizer & Tags
Does anyone know how to get the Label Painter feature that was in Microsoft Digital Image Suite 2006 Library? That was hands down the best system for tagging a lot of photos.

Re: Organizer & Tags
GuyL, Could you explain your approach to this ... how do you actually do it? Is this a valid approach with XP?GuyL wrote:My answer is I've resorted to using Windows to organize and tag my photos. Upon further investigation it works better than Corel's "Organizer" anyway in this regard.

Re: Organizer & Tags
This is a confusing thread... It seems to be saying that PSP does not read tags held in the image files.
Which I don't think, is the case..
I know that PSP X3 does recognise Tags applied by other sources cos it works for me here...
I tagged 1000's of pics and Windows Photo Gallery recognises the tags, Windows file explorer lists the tags, and so does PSP X3.
But yes....
PSP ALSO stores a separate "Tag catalog" as a .db file that it manages. In the Appdata/Local directory chain..
But the 'tags' also still exist inside the jpg files (in my case) and available to all other apps.
When I use PSP to add a tag to an image, the physical JPG file is tagged (you can see this in File Explorer listing), and I guess the .db catalog file is also updated.
But I do find it remarkable that there is absolutely NOTHING in any Corel Help, User Guide etc that references HOW the catalog system works.
Or am I missing something ?
Its like the catlaoging is meant to be a black are we are not allowed to know about "
Ho Hum...
if anyone has Tag knowlege.. can you help with the entry I just added to this post..--->
