Why is uLead studio all grainy?

Post by dvddvddvd »

Hello all
I wanted to video my pc screen so i got some software that captures whats happening on your pc in AVI format, (Total Screen recorder) it all worked fine.
The captured AVI file plays great in Windows media player, but i then decided to edit the AVI file in Ulead 10, after I added it to the timeline the playback was all grainy ? You can only just make out any wording on the recorded pc footage ? It played fine and clear in Windows media player ? any ideas i even rendered it at the end in different formats but its still all grainy ? thanks any ideas ?

To find the properties, right click on one of the AVIU clips within VS10. Copy ALL its properties here, please.

The reason we ask is that there are in fact over 800 different types of video formats which use the .avi extension. It is just a wrapper format, and the actual formats varying enormously. Usually, you need the manually install the correct codec, or else VS will use something approximate which might give the sort of results your are receiving.

Hi thanks this is the properties :

FILE

File format : Microsoft AVI files open DML
File size 7882 KB
Frame rate 8.000 frames a sec
Duration 38.60 sec
Data rate 198.98 kpbs

VIDEO COMPRESSION

AVI decompressor
Attributes 16 bits 1024 x 768
Total frames 309

When you open the file in Windows media player in small screen mode its a bit grainy but if you make the windows movie player full screen its perfect picture, but adding it to your timeline in uLead its got the grainy appearrece, its mainly the text half of the charachers are missing and its hard to read, seems ok if you still pause the video ? thanks

If you record your screen at 1280x1024 it will only look crystal clear when played back untouched at 1280x1024. If you are going to edit it, you need your project settings to match this size and then you also need to ouput it at this size, finally you'll also need to view it again at this size.

What this means is, if you make a dvd in PAL sizes you will reduce your video size to 720x576, played on a tv it won't look good. Same goes for then watching it on an old pc at 800x600.

Hi when i use Total screen recorder it says "region full screen 1024 x 768" there seems to be no way to change it ?
When I add it to my time line the max size options for the project in project prefrences are 720 x 576 ? how do I get them both to be the same? thanks

Basically what I would like to do is make a video of my pc screen showing how to use a piece of software, edit it, then put it on youtube for people to watch, its shows the procedure of using the software so it needs to be clear so the user can make out the text on the different files been shown ?

I downloaded Total screen recorder to capture my pc and have uLead 10 to edit the video thanks

Hi thanks I captured the video at 1024 x 768 and inserted it into the timeframe on ulead 10 with the same 1024x768 properties in uLead, edited it and then renedered it at a custom setting which was the same as the original and all is well looks great But the file size is 6.7GB for a small clip ? I believe the largest clip on youtube is 2GB ? So i tried to render it using the "share video online" i picked best quality but it looked awfull when I played it back? Tried rendering at pal dvd and it also looks awfull ?
What setting do I have to use to render to make the video a smaller size ? but still watchable ? thanks
