I'm trying to make a DVD (Pal) for a friend with his video, from his Sanyo camera. The files are MP4. When I render the video as Pal DVD it gets part way through then just stops working.
I wonder whether there is a problem with this type of video and VS X3?

Yeah... The more-compressed formats can sometimes be "difficult". DV/AVI* is almost always rock-solid, and MPEG-2 is normally OK.I wonder whether there is a problem with this type of video and VS X3?
If you're editing, you can try saving as DV/AVI before editing. Then open the new DV/AVI file and go from there. (If you're not editing, this will probably fail just as the PAL MPEG-2 is failing...)
If you can't convert with Video Studio, try converting the file to DV/AVI or MPEG-2 with SUPER (FREE!!!). Choose the same basic PAL settings that you are using with Video Studio (25 fps & 720x576). If you go to the SUPER website, don't get fooled by all the "AVS Converter" ads. Follow the links and make sure you're downloading SUPER.
If you choose MPEG-2 and you get the settings right, you should be able to "smart render" to DVD format without re-encoding (copy the DVD-compatible settings from Video Studio). If you choose DV it will take more time to render, but since DV is less compressed than MPEG-4 or MPEG-2, there should be no loss of quality and it's "safe" to do the extra conversion step.
* AVI is a "wrapper" or "container" format that can contain almost any format... You want DV!

Ormond -- can you verify whether, when you say you are rendering the mp4 to PAL DVD, that you are creating a DVD-compatible mpeg-2 file, or are you trying to burn direct to DVD? If the latter, then have you tried the former?

Doug,
I have used Super before so I'll try your suggestion.
Ken,
I was trying to render the video (61 short clips totaling around 27 mins) as an mpg so that I could then use that to make a DVD with DVD Movie Factory.
I don't see an option in X3 to make a DVD from within X3. I miss that simplicity - I used it a lot in earlier versions.
(Someone directed me to 'Womble' for editing Sanyo MP4 video.)
