Crashes,crashes,crashes!

Post by Peterj »

The crash occured before i start video studio 9 and continues any time i decide to run the application and i had not success to run it till now.
But isn't only this problem, the same occured when i try to run other Ulead products like "Photoimpact 10" and "DVD Movie Factory 4" with the same message box to appear, saying:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
vstudio.exe-Application error

The instruction at "0x02599caf" referenced memory at"0x00000000".The
memory could not be "read".

Click on OK to terminate the program
Click on Cancel to debug the program
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
That is exactly the message box i get at any trying i do to run the Ulead applications and i can't understand it because all the other applications i have into my pc (not Ulead) they are running without any problem.
Can someone help me in my nightmare? Tia

Hi,

The trouble I've had has been largely due to installation order.

I'd uninstall VS9 and whatever else you have that isn't working. There are some details in the forum in how to uninstall to get all the *remnants* of the software out of the system. Be sure to follow that.

If you have XP, make sure that there isn't anything else running and be sure that you are logged in as the Administrator.

Installation should be straightforward, and if you have more than one program, install the imaging software, the DVD software and the video software. While this order shouldn't have much to do with anything, it does put the movie making CODECs on the higher priority - the CODECs shouldn't be different, but I can see some configurations that would like the order I've listed.

When using the software, make sure that there aren't any programs running in the background. Screen savers are deadly, so are power management options.

Good luck.

Mike

Thank you Mike with your fast reply.I think tomorrow i will find the time to uninstall first what i have of Ulead and reinstall from the begining.
After that i will post here the result.
I want to say also that the installations are exactly as you said.First the photoimpact10 after movie factory4 and now 3 days ago video studio9.
But as you mention about my background i remember that sometime i had problem to run a game and incidentally i found that the problem was "zone alarm" which i use also now but i can't test it directly now ,to close it,but i will do it tomorrow.

YEP! If you are using Zone Alarm, it will Kill an application, there are others on this Forum and other Forums have the same problem trying to install or run Ulead Products with Zone Alarm and the XtremeLoc Managing Service while running. I don't use ZA and so don't know what changes to make in ZA to allow Ulead to operate.

Mike is right, shut ZA down and any other Firewall and Anti-Virus software, before you try to reinstall. If after installation, you have problems, try shutting down ZA. Go into all Ulead Products and in Preferences, uncheck the box Check Ulead's Web site every (XX) days.

If your poroblem persists go to ZA's Web site and ask for Tech Support. www.zonelabs.com

First i tried to close all the programs which running at start-up but nothing not one program of Ulead want to run.
Second i uninstall all and reinstall from scratch but i didn't see any light. The same exactly situation, not a program want to run.
The mysterious is that i have this problem only with Ulead. The rest of programs working without problem. To be ready for suicide? LoL
No one from Ulead is here at the board to advise us?

Ulead Support is always in the background.

You must implement the following instructions to the letter:

If you have uninstalled and reinstalled all Ulead products, and still have trouble; you will have to try the more difficult method of Installation from Safe Mode, here is how you do that;

Shut down the computer, disconnect your Phone Cable connected to your modem, so that you will not have access to the Internet. You do not want to catch a virus. Once this is done turn on your computer and Boot to Standard Mode.

Uninstall Zone Alarm from your system.
Uninstall All Ulead products from your system; you now need to delete two sets of Ulead Folders, only delete the Ulead Systems Folders, not the whole tree! The first can be found at C:\Documents and Settings\xxx(user name)xx\Application Data\Ulead Systems. The second Ulead Folder is at location C:\Program Files\ Ulead Systems.

Make sure before you start the next step, you have a PS2 Keyboard and Mouse, as Ulead Install disc Menu does not support USB peripherals or Keyboard menu selection. Once certain of this requirement reboot your computer, during the Boot process hold down the F8 key to bring up the Safe Mode selection screen, choose Safe mode. Once you are in Safe Mode, insert the Ulead Install disc and reinstall your Applications in the order that Mike suggested. Don’t reboot after each install, only after the last application is installed then reboot to Standard Mode.

In each Ulead application go to Preferences, General, Categories, (Ulead Product Name, i.e. PhotoImpact), uncheck the checked Box, Check Ulead’s Web site every (XX) days.

If your applications work, then shut down your computer. Reconnect your phone to modem cable, turn on and Boot your computer, then reinstall Zone Alarm.

If your Ulead Applications work, you are home free, if not you will have to contact Ulead Tech Support for further help.

If your Ulead applications work and after reinstalling Zone Alarm your Ulead applications don’t work, then your issue is with Zone Alarm. Zone Alarm is your Firewall and Anti-Virus Protector, it allows application to connect to the Internet, or blocks them. You will have to find out how to make the necessary changes to allow Ulead Products to work with ZA.

XP SP2
I have Zone Alarm Pro 4.5.594 (Firewall only) and have no problem with VS9

Some of the versions of ZoneAlarm after that gave serious problems to heaps of programs but apparently the lastest version is fairly stable. I never upgraded because of the problems.

I agree with keenart and look at the ZA site for suggestions

Just installed VS9 and it is just crashing all the time .. encountered error and do you want to send report to microsoft.. Always on completion of project and crashes when it gets to next stage.. both editing and movie wizard. Did have vs8 installed previously on desktop.. works fine on my laptop. Annoying!

Before you did your Upgrade, did you do an uninstall of the previous version, or did you upgrade over the previous version?

Once you upgrade over a previous version, you rarely can get everything uninstalled.

For the time being your best course of action would be to uninstall the newest version. Then delete the Fodlers Ulead System mention from the previous thread; use your System Restore to go back to the date before you installed the newest version. Then reinstall the older version, things should go back to normal.

If you want to Install the newest Version you should, provided you have an install disc for the older version, and did not download, uninstall the oldest version. Delete the Folders Ulead System, reboot your computer and then install the newest version.
