Studio 8 Keeps crashing

Post by Davey »

:?:
Hello
I have just today installed Studio 8 plus the upgrade etc and when I try to open a JPEG the programe just crashes.
The pictures were sent via email taken on a digital camera and when I click on Images then load image, I click on the JPEG I want then it crashes to the desktop and no idea why - The sample pictures that are in My Picture Folder (the ones that come with XP) these work fine and no problems.

Any help would be appreciated and sorry if this has been asked before (I did have a look before hand)

Thanks[/quote]

You are talking about a .JPEG file, a still image, right? And it's there already on your hard drive.

Click File > Import into Library and choose Image (or the appropriate option). Browse for that .JPEG and click on it. It will appear in the Library of images to the right of the preview window. Then you can just drag it into the Timeline.

My question would be this: Since VideoStudio is a *video* editing program, is it really what you want to be using, with a still image?

I am using Studio 8 for video editing - its just that I will be using some stills in my projects.
I will try again with the JPEG using your advice
Thanks again

Try right-clicking on the file in the "My Pictures" folder, and selecting Preview from the menu. Does that crash, too? Alternatively, try selecting "Open With" from the same menu, and choose Internet Explorer.

For what it's worth, there have been security exploits of a JPEG image handling bug that has affected software from Microsoft, Apple, various Linux versions, and others. This exploit relies on a buffer overflow and resulting code execution. I'm not saying that's what's happening here, but keep this in mind, and get the latest security updates from Microsoft's Windows Update site.
