Capture issues on Pro3
I just loaded VS Pro 3 on my new drive due to a failure on my seagate. Anyway when I go to capture I get a error.
Do I need to download anything?

Oh Brian - you have been with us long enough now to know that we need a great deal more information before we can give you any sensible help - you haven't even told us what error message your getting.
Please can we have more information on your computer spec - please fill in your profile then tell us what you have changed - what changes did that involve on your system - what are you doing exactly when you get the error message, what does the error message say - does it give any code or point to any particular malfunction.
Do we assume that all was working well before the HDD was changed - is everything else on your computer working well since the change - have you loaded everything else (like Direct X, Quicktime etc etc ) on to the new drive - did you change or upgrade any other software while re-loading.

Re: Capture issues on Pro3
And what are you capturing from? Is it DV or analog? SD or HD? etc., etc.

Re: Capture issues on Pro3
But you still have not told us the all important part: exactly what are you trying to capture????
I am assuming you are trying to use Firewire since you do at least specifically mention "1394"... However, are you trying to capture video that was originally DV, HDV or analogue? If the latter -- and you are using either a mini DV camcorder as passthrough, a Sony Digital 8 as passthrough or actually playing an analogue 8mm or Hi8 tape, or even some of the Firewire capture devices, then you are out of luck anyway. VS since VS11 has not been able to do it since Corel in their wisdom changed the capture plug-in and have never seen fit to fix it... In that case you use an alternative. Many of us here use the freeware WinDV which does an excellent job or else Windows Movie Maker or whatever they are now calling it in Windows 7...

Ken
I'm capturing from Canon XL2 I was able to when I had my good drive.
However i did do a upgrade from Vista to Windows 7.
So here I'am not able to capturre from MinDV off the Canon XL2.
So now your telling m that Corel never fixed this?
Ugh I so like this proggie for on the fly edits. I'm so leaning towards Avid or Sony Vegas.
Not to mention people like you and LAB are mad cool on here and know your stuff.

Re: Capture issues on Pro3
If you are just capturing straight DV from the mini DV tape in your camcorder, it should be working, and I can't think why it is not. The bug I mentioned only relates to capturing what was originally analogue video using Firewire... But certainly on my Windows 7 32 bit Quad, I can capture both SD DV and HDV using firewire and X3. However, as mentioned, I prefer using WinDV for SD DV, both for analogue captures and normal DV...

I know and have tried to deal with Corel in the past and they havent even returned any emails.
They suck at support.
Does anyone have a direct email for them?

The dump file did not come through, but I won't ask you to re-send it as no one here is likely to be able to interpret it in any case!
As for an email for Corel support, I am also embarrassed to have to admit that though I am one of the Site Admins, I have no special link with Corel Support. I only tried a couple of times to get in touch with Ulead support, as it then was, about 7 or 8 years ago when I was just starting off on the video editing adventure. But what responses I got were so lacklustre that I turned to this forum, and got hooked!!
Have you tried WinDV or capturing with Windows Movie Maker? If so, do they work? If not, then that would point to something on the hardware side being out of kilter...

Re: Capture issues on Pro3
The XL2 is an older cam, win7 will use the latest IEEE1394a drivers, I suspect a compatibility with these new drivers, so recomend using the legacy firewire drivers, it'll tell you how to do this here
A lot of the info is based on movie maker, so ignore that, plus the fact you've checked in device manager etc... but be aware, DM only checks if it should be working in theory, it does not do a physical check

Re: Capture issues on Pro3
I checked firewall settings.
I unsintalled my 1394 drivers and reloaded.
now when I click on the share and capture tabs i get errors and it closes the program.
I do remember when i installed my PROX3 that it did get a ms dos windows error pop up. Hope this has nothing to do with it.
I'm really disappointed one being my drive blew up and now with my extra drive a simple install of X3 wont work its not rocket science.
Ugh

How about using the legacy firewire drivers as suggested in my post above?

Do you know what this error message was in full? Probably note, I suspect, but this kind of messagfe during installation is not normal, so it is likely your installation is corrupt, so it may be best to try a repair install or totally remove the whole programme and start again installing from fresh.
