Yesterday I bought an Easy Cap adapter with a trial of VS10.
The incluede driver did not work with my Windows 7 Ultimate 64, so I download http://www.sabrent.com/drivers/USB-AVCP ... Win7.zip
. Then W7 recognised the adapter.
I have connected my 10 year old DV camera ( Panasonic NV-DS77 ) to the composite connections ( has only composite and S-VHS ) and in VS10 I could see the video from the camera on preview capture screen without sound.
The moment I tried to record I got the following message : "No input signal or input signal is unclear".
In the preview screen the video is crystal clear.
The the message "Cannot start the capture graph".
After that I uninstalled the program and installed VS12 trial.
That program does not even give an image on the capture preview screen.
When trying to record I get the following messages : "Failed to initialize the video capture plugin" / Another programm might be using it or the fiule has been moved " / Open driver failed. Cannot create the capture filter."
With GSpot270a I checked if any of the codec had issues but all 150 where OK.
Is there a way to get this working ?
Or is there another programm that will work ?
Cannot record with both VS10 and VS12

Re: Cannot record with both VS10 and VS12
Welcome to the forums,
I think that your problem is more of a compatibility issue with Win7. VS 10 certainly is not compatible with Win7, and in order for VS 12 to be, you must install This Service Pack. Since you're running a trial version, the service pack may not install.
There's also been a long running problem since VS 11, with capturing analog video. You say that you're using a DV camcorder, however it only has composite and S-VHS ports, which is kinda of odd. Most DV camcorders have a Firewire (IEEE-1394, Sony's iLink), and maybe a USB port. What make and model is your camcorder? We can look it up to see if there might be a firewire port. I have a Sony DCR-TRV120, which is about 10yrs old now, is a DV camcorder and does have a firewire port. If you're camcorder AND computer has a firewire port, using it would be much better for transferring your video.
Depending on how much video you have to edit, it might be worth the extra expense to invest in a real high-quality capture/transfer device. One I would recommend is from Grass Valley, ADVC55.

Re: Cannot record with both VS10 and VS12
I have just had a look at the instructiopn manual for your NV-DS77 GSalden and as Ron suggests in his post it does indeed have a DV (aka firewire, aka i-link, aka IEEE1394) port - under a small cover on the bottom front corner of the camera - that really is the only and certainly the best quality way to transfer video from a DV camcorder to your computer. If your computer does not have a firewire port then you need to install the correct PCI card which is relatively cheap and very easy to do - then get a 4 pin to 6 pin firewire cable and you will be amazed at how easy the whole process becomes - not perhaps the quickest way to transfer as you have to do it in real time but certainly the best as far as quality goes from your camcorder.
If you do not have a firewire connection on your computer have a look at this tutorial :-
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kI9y0l27-UM
shows just how easy it is.

Re: Cannot record with both VS10 and VS12
Thanks for responding this quick.
Today I purchased a firewire cable.
I thought that my Dv camera was recognised automatically but that is not the case.
With VS12 I tried but the programm sees no camera.
In the manual it is written that the I link ( firewire ) is used for transferring to another digital recording device ( digital camera / recorder ).
Is there anything I can do ?

In some instances you must have the firewire connected and cam turned on before opening VS. In other instances you may have to have VS open before turning cam on. You may have to experiment different scenarios until you determine which works for you.

Re: Cannot record with both VS10 and VS12
A computer is also a digital recording device - firewire is a system which works very well - it is what I use to transfer from my Panasonic DV camera to computer. Most of the Instruction manuals from about 10 years ago forgot to mention how easy it was to connect to a computer.
is your camcorder in 'VCR' mode (position of power switch)
Is it just VideoStudio that is not recognising the camera or can you see it in Windows Explorer as 'DV Device'
having connected the camera and switched it to 'VCR' did you then click on the 'Capture' tab at the top of the VS screen - then about halfway down on the right side click on 'Capture Video' then wait for quite a few seconds until the programme recognises and initiates communication between camera and computer before a number of visible changes occur onscreen and the first frame from your video appears in the preview window - the first frame may be completely black remember.
So did you do all that and nothing happened or did you do something else and nothing happened.

Re: Cannot record with both VS10 and VS12
Windows 7 64 does not recognise the camera at all.
The firewire cable is.
I read at the MS support site that XP had the drivers for this camera already built in.
Unfortunataly I could not find any drivers at all to download.
Neither for XP , nor for Vista or W7.
Perhaps the I-link is firewire , but only works with other panasonic cameras using I-link too.

Re: Cannot record with both VS10 and VS12
firewire was develped by apple to transfer video.
They sold it to IEEE and it became IEEE1394a
Many manufacvturers make slight changes to firewire, so they rename it, i-link, dv etc.
In essence it is all the same..................
BUT
Early versions of firewire used by lots of camcorder manufacturers were not properly IEEE1394a compliant.
You may find using the legacy firewire driver may help.
1- Click the Start Button, type devmgmt.msc in the “Start Search” box and press Enter.
2- Expand the "IEEE 1394 Bus Host Controllers" node in the device tree on the right hand pane
3- Right click the host controller node select "Update driver software ..."
4- Select "Browse my computer for driver software"
5- Select "let me pick from a list of device driver on my computer ..." and Check the box before “Show compatible hardware”.
6. Choose the second option---1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller (Legacy), and click next to update the driver.
