DMF 6 crashes on video capture

Post by tired dave »

I used DMF4 happily on a computer running XP. When I upgraded to one running windows 7 it was incompatable so I upgraded to DMF6 as I was told it was ok with windows 7. However It freezes as soon as you try to capture video. I have installed DMF6 SP2 with no effect. Is DMF6 also incompatable in which case I have wasted my money and would like to know which product to buy (I need to convert VHS tapes to DVD using a kworld DVDmaker USB2 as the hardware interface. Any help at all would be great thanks

There's probably something "wrong" with your video file, or just something about the file that Movie Factory "doesn't like". Have you tried any old video files that worked before you updated?

What format are the captured files? Try converting them to MPEG-2 (or re-encoding them if they are already MPEG-2) with SUPER (FREE!!!). Copy the MPEG-2 settings from your Movie Factory Project Settings to make a DVD-compatible file.
in which case I have wasted my money
Video-related software is always a "risk", but Corel always offers a 30-day free trial, plus there is a 30-day money-back guarantee for stuff purchased directly from Corel. (But since the current version is 7, you probably didn't get MF6 from corel... :( )

If you give-up and can't get Movie Factory to work, try DVD Styler (FREE!!!) or DVD-Lab ($100-$250 USD). Or, Wikipedia has a nice List of DVD Authoring Applications.

MF6 is not and was never supported on Windows 7, there are no updates to correct things that may be an issue with Windows for MF6.

Check the event viewer after MF6 crashes
- Select Start | in the "Search programs and files" box above the start button type: eventviewer | Select View event logs | Expand Windows logs | Select Application.
- Browse through the list and look for the error from MF6, post the error from the description in the forum and that might be able to help us see what is causing the crash.

Rob
