How do I create a gradient color background?

I want a gradient background color for my PIP video. I can't find any way to create a gradient in the color menu. Any suggestions?

The easiest way to do it is to create the gradient colour background as a jpeg or bmp in whatever still imaging software you have and insert that into the timeline of VS and set it's time for the duration you require.
