Hello,
I am editing a project and the cameraman shot the footage in 24p but i need to make the movie have slow motion.
What are my options and how can this be done.
Thanks

I'm not sure which version of VS you are using but as far as I recall they are all very similar
Put the video in the timeline - make sure you are in the 'Edit' stage (tab at top) - click on the video clip to select it - now in the 'Options Panel' which is just above the right hand end of the timeline you should see "Playback Speed" click on that to open the dialogue box to increase or decrease the speed of playback - the figures are % of original speed and should allow you to set from 10% to 1000%.
The frame rate of yor original is not relevant for this operation

You can also right click on a clip in the timeline and choose Playback Speed.

Re: Slow motion from 24p footage
Hey Guys,
Ok thanks, I will go ahead and just slow the footage down with playback speed.
i was once told that you should not slow down 24p footage (because there are not enough fps to slow down) so i thought there would be some different hoops to jump through.
But i will go ahead and do it the regular way.
thanks

Re: Slow motion from 24p footage
Well, standard PAL uses 25 fps, instead of 24, and that can certainly be slowed down, as can NTSC which uses only 4.97 fps more than standard PAL (i.e. 29.97 fps). So much for that theory!!

Re: Slow motion from 24p footage
Hi.
Sometimes, depending on the clip and speed, I'm adding the same clip on overlay track shifted for 1 frame and try different transparency options. This allows me to get a smoother motion in comparing with ordinary slow down abilities.
So, the workflow is following (no exact menu item names here, because no VS on this computer, can't recall them):
1) Slowdown the original clip
2) Review the result
3) If not satisfied, copy and add to overlay track the same clip from step 1 (the speed will be already adjusted). Adjust the clip size for full frame.
4) zoom the timeline to 1frame
5) Shift the clip to 1 frame in comparing with original, experiment with different transparency options
Some considerations to apply this method
1) Quality of the end result depends on shooting speed (adjustable just for some camcorders) and the scene (lighting, how many moving objects, etc)
2) Usually, I use this for extremely slowed clips. For a "small" slowdown I'm satisfied with standard options provided by X3
