Acquiring Scanned photos

Post by davidh202 »

In X2 all I had to do was go to file- either 'twain acquire' or -'from scanner' and my scanner software would open in X2 and i could directly import the scan.
In X3 all the acquire choices are grayed out unless I first choose, file- new, and then a dialogue box for size options opens.Once I have a new (empty) file on the editor screen I can then acquire :?
Is this a new change in X3 or am I doing something wrong?

Well it's not something new with PSPX3 I don't believe. As TWAIN Acquire and TWAIN Source are both available for me without having a new file available. How odd.

What WORKSPACE are you in?
In my organizer, the twains are greyed out.
In the full editor thay are active;
not that I understand why they behave like this!
I have scanned into the full editor successfully.

Having used four different scanners from an all in one, to a photo-copier that also scans and prints (office grade), to a flatbed to a dedicated film scanner I've got to say that the scanner to computer interface is not a refined operation. Sometimes it works flawlessly but I've had to unplug other USB devices to get it to scan even though it would preview just fine. Scanners are a beast all their own, which is why you'll sometimes find people that just have one computer dedicated to that one scanner and a few other things but most of the heavy lifting is done on another computer all together.

What's interesting is that in my X3, initially when I open up the program, all TWAIN is greyed out. If I create a new image, then TWAIN is finally active thereafter, even after I close the new image without saving. So it acts like it's not doing an initial scan for TWAIN on initial startup. X2 works just fine.

I am using PaintShop Photo Pro X3. I am trying to Import from Scanner (AIO). If I open an existing photo file from my hard drive the Import/From Scanner becomes available. It then allows me to Preview but I try to actually Scan the picture I get the following error message: "An error has occurred while trying to read from the file."
What do I have to do to fix or make it work?
But if I use Windows Paint, I can scan without hesitation.
I rather use PaintShop Photo Pro X3 since I will not have to Crop the picture after been scanned.
I need help fast. I am working on various old photos from my Mother-In-Law's church 20th Anniversary to create an slide show.

I agree with Levi, I can use my scanner via IMPORT > TWAIN ACQUIRE or the SCANNER icon without any problem. Have you tried updating your scanner driver?

@belas - if the error "An error has occurred while trying to read from the file" only happens when scanning, I would suggest that you reinstall or update the scanning software on your computer.
