DVD not "square" when viewed on TV
I have just made a DVD via VS 11+ using the settings through out that I have always used. When still images show (with a picture frame I made with
Paint Shop Pro X) part of the frame does not show on the TV and is not horizontal to the TV screen.Everything is 4:3,the image size is, as usual to PAL
spec H+W wise so why is this happening.........Ken

Hi Ken
If I understand what you are saying its to do with “Safe Area” aka “Overscan
When we view our video on the telly some of the frame is lost around the sides of the screen. “Overscan”
We don’t normally notice as the perimeter of the video is not that important, till you create a frame.
The overscan can be some 10%-15%, yes this is quite large.
Make the frame larger, 15% of the image size--the outside of the frame will be hidden due to overscan, but the inside should now show.
The rectangle showing when creating Titles indicates the Safe Area, this will give you an idea of the size of overscan.

I know what you are saying Trevor and I am familar with the safe area and the overscan issue, but this issue is about some of the image frame not missing
in part and parallel but only some of it missing via a slant. That is one corner of the frame at the top has less showing than the other corner at the top on the other side(if you see what I mean)

Re: DVD not "square" when viewed on TV
What type of television are you using? Flat screen, CRT, wide-screen? What type of PC monitor are you using? Flat panel, wide-screen? When you view your project in the preview window, in enlarged view, (the square button icon to the right of the scissors), does it show this distortion ? When you render your project do you have the option "Non-square Pixel.." selected?

Re: DVD not "square" when viewed on TV
No Ken, your TV is more modern than mine, which is not a flat screen. It's a 10yr old CRT tube TV.
It might be that the overscan of your TV is cutting off part of your video, and causing that distortion. One way to check, is to view it on a couple of different TVs.

And even worse news Kenneth - here in London Analogue TV transmission is being switched off in 2012 - you'll need to be able to receive and view Digital TV.
Something else to consider when buying a new TV

Aha. Obviously your TV is not sitting level. Prop up the one end and that should fix it.only some of it missing via a slant. That is one corner of the frame at the top has less showing than the other corner at the top on the other side(if you see what I mean)

Re: DVD not "square" when viewed on TV
Now that is an angle I would never have thought of but perhaps it would be easier if I asked viewers to lean over a few degrees whilst watching.I am so glad I am a member of this forum, where else could I get advice like that
