Multiple Projects And Video Library

Post by sportswizdan »

Hey everyone...

I was doing 3 different projects. They were all captured seperately and saved as VSP files. My video library thumbnails and my working project folder where I keep my saved VSP files were getting confusing. So, I made a seperate folder on my hard drive for these projects and deleted JUST the thumbnail from the video library. When I go to open a specified saved project...It says it doesnt exist and does the relinking. Is this because I took them out of my project folder into a new folder... or ... because I deleted the thumbnails in the video library? When i went to open the projects in the new file folder I created on my hard drive...The VSP files were there...So what went wrong??? I lost a few hours of editing time here. :( Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks, Dan

what did you move? if you move images or video files that will cause relinking probs, if you open the project in stotyboard veiw you will see black and white boxes instead of thunbnails if you click on each one you can attempt to relink each one, very painfull or perhapes change everything back?

Dan,
The Library is just a bunch of pointers to where your files are (or were). When you moved your three projects into separate folders, you invalidated the library icons and were correct to delete them. (Or, you could have relinked them.)

In any case, IMHO, the easiest way to recreate your library icons is to load a project and after relinking everything, select all the video clips, for example, in the timeline and drag the whole mess into a project video library. (I usually create separate video library folders for each project. - Its a good organizing principle.)

BTW, beware that your project Preferences are not saved with your project file. You will have to set them manually each time you open a project, for each different project.

Hi bop...

Yes, I moved my saved VSP project video files into a different folder on my hard drive. So, that is the problem then? So, I should keep everything in my "working project folder" and not delete any thumbnails from the video library until everything is edited and completed and burned to a DVD?
