Hi,
Videos are often rendered again in Ulead VideoStudio 11 SE DVD even if I load it and save it without editing anything. After performing some experiments by modifying the first video header via the tool DVDPatcher 1.06 before loading in VS11 I found out that this happens always for bitrates (bits/s) like ****600 and ****800. Bitrates ending with 000, 200 and 400 have no problems (DVDPatcher allows only bitrates which can be divided by 400 obviously). Is this a known bug in VS11? Is there any workaround within VS11 without using an external tool like DVDPatcher?
Thank you for any hint.

Re: SmartRender fails for certain bitrates
I am assuming you mean they are re-rendered during the burning process...? Can you confirm that is what you meant, please. And also that when you click on the middle icon that looks like a cogwheel in the bottom left of the burning screen, that the box beside 'Do not convert compliant MPEG files' is ticked.
Otherwise, this is the first time in many years on this Board that I have heard this particular theory. I certainly have never experienced it myself. But that is probably because when I set a bitrate, it is usually a round figure -- normally 8000, but sometimes 7000 or 6000, and never sub-sets of those.

Hi Wolfgang Beyer
From File Preferences if you select Show messages when Inserting First clip.
Start a new project
Insert one of your Mpeg files.
A message window should show requesting you match the project properties.
Select Details……..
View the right panel, these are your video clips properties.
Using your mouse highlight the text and paste to the forum.
If the message window does not show then the video file is not compliant.
By that I mean unable to burn to disc without further rendering.
The video will not support Smart Render, although it is sometimes quite difficult to say if Smart Render is having any effect on rendering video files.
You are working with Mpeg2 video, for Video Studio to perform at its best you must have a DVD compatible file.

Re: SmartRender fails for certain bitrates
I shold mention that I simply want to cut TV recording files and than save them as Mpeg again on disk. My source files with bitrates not divisible by 1000 are produced by PVAStrumento 2.1.0.22 (the newest version).
Hi Ken, yes I mean that they are re-rendered. But I don’t burn it, therefore ticking the box beside 'Do not convert compliant MPEG files' in the bottom left of the burning screen has no effect on the problem.
Hi Trevor, with the suggested procedure I obtain the following properties for an example of a problematical video (unfortunately in german):
MPEG-Dateien
24 Bits, 720 x 576, 25 fps
Oberes Halbbild zuerst (= upper half image first)
(DVD-PAL), 16:9
Videodatenrate: Variabel (Max. 4540 kbps)
Audiodatenrate: 256 kbps
MPEG-Audioebene 2, 48 KHz, Stereo
DVDpatcher 1.06 displays 4540800 bits/sec in this case. Changing the bitrate of the first header via DVDPatcher before loading in VS usually leads to problems.
Choosing in VS "make the project properties fitting the video properties so that VS can perform SmartRender" (my translation from german) unfortunately does not solve the problem.

Ok
From File Preferences if you select Show messages when Inserting First clip, this should be selected.
1 / Start a new project
2 / Insert one of your Mpeg files.
3 / A message window should show requesting you match the project properties.
4 / Select Yes/Ok---(your project properties are changed to match the video file)
5 / Continue to edit the project, when complete.
6 / Share Create Video File—Same as Project Settings or Same as First Video File
This will render the project using the video files properties to Mpeg2.
Are you able to create this video file?
7 / Start a new project
8 / Share Create Disc
9/ Add Media -- Add Video Files ---(top left icon)
10 / create a menu
11/ Burn the disc

Re: SmartRender fails for certain bitrates
Step 1 to 6 describes what I usually do. I am always able to create a video file this way, but for the critical bitrates mentioned above re-rendering occurs, which needs much time instead of the fast SmartRender.
Using step 7 to 11 I don’t see at once if SmartRender is active or not. But according the time required I think it is always active, also for videos with critical bitrates, and also if I don’t load the files produced by step 6 but the original output of PVAStrumento. So the problem seems to accur only for saving Mpeg files (even for the option "Same as First Video File") in step 6 but not for burning a disc.

Re: SmartRender fails for certain bitrates
Hi
From step 7
The video file added here is a compliant video file.
Provided you do not edit the file further and just make a menu the DVD will be created without further rendering.
When you finally hit the burn button the convert process should start with Convert Menu.
If however it shows Convert Title then the video file is being rendered using the settings under the Options Cogwheel, temporary compliant Mpeg2 files are created which are used to burn the DVD.
This would occur if you were to add a non-compliant video Smart Render would not be used.
I am on vacation/holiday for the next two weeks so wont be able to reply.
