Hi All,
I am hoping someone might have an answer to this problem. I am editing a wedding video and I have transferred all the footage onto the computer. All the video clips work perfectly apart from one. When I insert the clip into video studio and so all the editing it plays fine. I continue editing on other clips but when I come back later, the clip is not displayed correctly in the timeline and the clip is black but the audio is still there. Why does it do that when the clip has the same exact properties as the rest of the clips?
Audio but no video on 1 clip

What's the format and what are those "properties"? What output format are you making? (DVD?, Blu-Ray?, etc?).Why does it do that when the clip has the same exact properties as the rest of the clips?
The solution will probably be to convert that clip to a more reliable format. Some of the more-compressed or "more-advanced" formats can be flaky. Or, if you already have a reliable format, you may be able to smply re-encode (re-render) that clip to "repair" it.

Re: Audio but no video on 1 clip
The original clip is a MPEG file720 x 576 running at 9100kps data rate and 45 frames/second. I have tried converting the file into WMV, AVI and MPEG with different bit rates, but no luck. The WMV is not good enough quality and the Xvid avi conversion works the best but still not good enough when you get to the section where the camera pans. How is the best way to re-encode the clips?DVDDoug wrote:What's the format and what are those "properties"? What output format are you making? Nobody here knows why these things happen, but we can probably help you with a work-around.

Hi
You say 45 frames/second., I assume this is a typo and you mean 25 f/s
As the problem with one particular clip out of many?
Have you applied a different affect to this particular one.
Start a new project adding the problem clip, (right click timeline and select insert video) how does it play.?
Give us some more details as to the workflow you are using……….
What type of camera are you using, or was it some other device?
How did you transfer the footage to the pc.
What version of Video Studio are you using?????????

Re: Audio but no video on 1 clip
Try saving the problem clip as AVI/DV* (with the same resolution and framerate). DV is less-compressed than most formats (you don't get to choose the bitrate) and it's generally the most trouble-free format, and except for uncompressed AVI it's the highest-quality standard-definition format. You can also try converting it to MPEG-2 at slightly lower bitrate (~8000kbps).The original clip is a MPEG file720 x 576 running at 9100kps
There is always some quality loss when you transcode/re-encode, but with DV or high-bitrate MPEG-2 (hopefully) you won't notice any quality loss. And, in any case some quality loss is better than a black screen!
* "AVI" is a container or "wrapper" format, and it can contain anything from DV to DivX.

I think I have got the work around from both of your help cheers. I tried re-encoding it but both wer unsuccessfull. The clip was recorded and transferred in the same way as the other 19 clips and this is the only one that gave trouble. Not sure what went wrong. The camcorder I used is a Sony Handycam DCR-SR50 HDD. I transferred the footage through USB and copied the MPEG files to my computer. The only alterations made to this clip was to cut off the end by a few seconds. It worked perfectly fine when I was halfway through editing and even burnt the project to did for testing. Only after I continued did it give trouble.
I am Using Corel VideoStudio x3 Pro. My workaround was to take the troublesome pic and burn that one file to dvd using nero. After that I used Magic DVD Ripper to rip that dvd into avi using MPEG2. As soon as that was done I imported the clip into corel and hey it is working so far. Quality is not as good but far better than when I used various other programs to do the same thing.
