Mp4 720 good quality?

Post by Auser »

When I Create Video File/MPeg4HD - the output looks fine, but the output is 1920x1080, I need 1280x720 - and since there doesn't appear to be a pre configured 1280x720 template i tried setting one up myself.

BUT, the output looks very bad. Now I know 1280x720 is smaller than 1920x1080, but that doesn't account for it, its like it rendered in 256 colors or something (in some areas), any tips on getting this better?

Try a higher bitrate (higher bitrate = less compression = bigger file = better quality.)

Hi

What are the properties of your original video file?

I can't go higher the program prevents it.

If I render with their preset HD MP4 the file is

9265 kbps, 1920x1080, 30 fps, AVC (NTSC) (Main@L4.0)(CABAC / 2 ref frames)
(Which is a bit odd since I generally got PAL templates)

When I define a template in the Make Movie Templates manager, I go with H.264-MAIN - at 20000 kbps (I can't go higher than 20000), and this produces this:

9557 Kbps, 1280x720, 25 fps, AVC (PAL) (Main@L4.1) (CABAC/2 ref frames)

And that render has areas which seem to degrade into 256 colors (slight exaggeration but it think it describes it)

Several rendered pieces in 1280x720 24 bits, stored in a lossless codec.

What is the source of your video files, what type of camera?
Please add an original video file to the timeline, right click and select properties.
What are they?

Now what are you trying to make with these files?
A standard DVD
A HD Blu-ray
A video file for the internet/you-tube

If we knew just what you were trying to do we could probably be more constructive.

Why does it matter?

I said rendered, its not from a camera.

I don't think you have the competence to help here. What does it matter what they are? I'm talking about the output from Videostudio pro - where the output in 1920x1080 looks fine but the 1280x720 output does not (which is curious since the input is 1280x720).

As I wrote in the first message, I'm trying to make an MP4 file, at 1280x720. That means, not a DVD, not a Blu ray. Not a youtube movie. An MP4 file, at 1280x720 which doesn't screw up the colors.

I doubt it by now. I'm unsubscribing from this thread, and going to assume its a bug in the program.

I'll have see if i can output to a lossless format and have another program render it to the required resolution.

Thanks.

Because you asked for help and in order to do that we need to know certain things, but as you are obviously unwillingy to help yourself, I think you'll find everyone else will be as well, particularly as you seem to know more than all of us anyway.
