Capturing DV2 and project settings?

Post by tpinfo4 »

I have a sony camcorder (link of camera is at the bottom) that I want to capture through 1394 to MSP Video Capture software. What are the best settings I should use? I tried Capturing to mpeg but is does not seem that good. Should I try DV1 or DV2? Which is better?

I am also using Adobe Encore DVD for Burning. Should I save my project in MSP as a AVI then let Adobe Encore encode it?

One last question. Should I check use smart rendering?

Any help is much apprecieted. Thank you.

If you wish quality results, there is no way you should transcode to MPEG. Capture and work in DV type 1 throughout.

There is no difference in quality between types 1 and 2; the only difference is the way the audio is recorded. In type 1, it is interleaved with the video: in type 2 it is additionally recorded as a separate stream.

Keep the smart rendering on.

When you have finished your project, I suggest you use the MSP encoder to produce your MPG file and make sure your authorer does not re-encode it.

I second Devils advice. Edit in DV (I prefer type 1) then export a DVD compliant MPEG-2 stream from MSPro. Set Encore so it does not re-encode it.

I'll up him one and advise to encode the audio using Dolby Digital. I've found it has a higher chance of playing correctly.
