I was scanning the instant movie templants for ideas. I pulled one in that was of interest. It had an overlay at the start that had a mask that wasn't in the available selections (i.e., none of the options was highlighted). A mask was clearly being used because the option that permits a mask (or chroma key etc) was checked and part of the image was certainly not being displayed. I can only conclude that the mask was from a file (usually selected using the + beside the mask options) but that was not at all obvious. Nor, of course, is there anyway to get at the mask file - it seemed inherent to the clip. I did find I could use the effect in other projects by loading the same instant project, deleting everything except that clip, and putting in my own video or photo clip into it. So no problems. Just curious whether I missed something. I had assumed, I guess improperly, that anything in an instant project should have been able to be created from scratch by anyone.

Another stupid question from a reliable source

Re: Instant movie masks
Hi
I have to agree with your comments.
I too looked at the Instant Projects, very good effects.
But when trying to identify the actual mask proved a little difficult, I thought that it would be highlighted in the Mask options, but not so.
If you were to apply a mask then it would be easily seen, highlighted.
Viewing the Slide Show using the orange/autumn colour and the heart shape is easy to see which mask was used, but still not highlighted.
Strange, I’m sure there will be some explanation……..
