VideoStudio Pro X3 crashes when running project
My VideoStudio Pro X3 crashes every time I run a project. The projects vary in length from 15 seconds to 30 minutes and comprise MP4 files in one and MOV files in another. I have applied the latest patch, but that didn't help. When it crashes I get the following error message:
An unhandled win32 exception occurred in vstudio.exe [9600]. Each time the number in square brackets changes as well. I have an HP PC running XP with plenty of grunt and 900GB of disk space and 3.84GB RAM. The files are coming from my Digital Video Camera HiD with a resolution of 1920x1080. I have the latest versions of Quicktime and Bonjour.
Since purchasing the product last year I have not been able to use it and each time I fill in the contact form to send to Corel support, I hit the Continue button and nothing happens, so have not been able to get any support from Corel. There is no error message or reason for not being able to contact Corel.
Any suggestions?

Re: VideoStudio Pro X3 crashes when running project
What is your camera?
What is the exact file type?
It's possible they are not quite compatible with VS and this causes the crash, what happens if you use wmv files?

Re: VideoStudio Pro X3 crashes when running project
The video camera and file type are in my posting: Digital Video Camera and comprise MP4 files in one and MOV files in another. I don't have wmv files.
I guess I will just have to ditch VideoStudio and find a program which is compatible with mp4 and mov files.

OK you have got A Digital Video Camera, so has everyone else who uses VideoStudio.
Mine is a Sony DCR TRV255E
What's yours?

Re: VideoStudio Pro X3 crashes when running project
Hi
1 / There is/was a problem with Quicktime and X3 associated with the latest QT version.
I’m not saying it is your problem but maybe worth a read.
http://corel.custhelp.com/app/answers/d ... 3/r_id/166
2 / Mov files ….. there are many different types, a lot really, not surprising that some cause problems.
It’s a bit like me telling you I have a car without telling you the make.
3 / File types…………
From Video Studio
If you were to right click your video files and select Properties, you would then be able to give us some further details regarding your video files.
4 / Some strange problems not necessarily causing crashes have been cured by manually updating Direct X, there is a link at the top of this forum.
5 / You seem to have had the problem for some time, so does it only crash when using certain types of video file or all types.
6 / If you were to use the sample videos from the library, Maybe the libraries WMV types, do they cause problems.?

That is the name of the Camera - DVC Digital Video Camera - in big bold letters on the camera and on the case and on the manual. It also has HiD-11 Plus in very small letters on the side.sjj1805 wrote:Liebling08

Re: VideoStudio Pro X3 crashes when running project
Thanks, Trevor. I have had different versions of Quicktime on the computer since I purchased the software, so doubt it is that. I right clicked on the video files and both say "Opens with QuickTime Player". The MOV type says "QuickTime Movie" and the MP4 type says "MPEG-4 Movie". Am attaching a capture of the detail of the MP4 file. I tried converting to AVI, but same problem. I tried one of the library WMV files and it didn't crash. I don't have any problems running the individual movie clips; it's only when they become a project that they crash. Am not sure where this link is to Direct X.trevor andrew wrote:Hi

Re: VideoStudio Pro X3 crashes when running project
Hi
As I said there are many types of Quicktime files.
To be honest I am a little out of my depth with codec’s, yes I understand what they are but when there are problems it can be difficult.
The one you have is using the Ambarella AVC encoder.
A search on google proved interesting reading but didn’t really address problems.
Certainly I do not have this on my computer.
If you view Share-Create Video File – Custom – “save type as” Quicktime – Options button – compression tab – the dropdown box will reveal the available codec’s.
Do you see Ambarella in the list.?
If not try installing the software that came with the camera, this may install the appropriate codec.
If you are intending to make a standard DVD then you could try re-coding your video to standard DVD Mpeg2.
If VS still gives problems there is a free video converter called Super which may do the job.
Just what are you intending to make with your video files, DVD, BluRay, YouTube??

Re: VideoStudio Pro X3 crashes when running project
I am also having the same crashing issues with VSPro X3. It randomly crashes when editing a project as well as when rendering a project. It doesn't seem to matter what type of file you are rendering to and it's a crapshoot if it will get through a project. I've tried projects of varying lengths as well from 15 sec to 30 min. I've uninstalled the latest QT (and iTunes rendering my iPad useless) and installed the older version supposedly able to correct the QT issue, and it still crashes. I've reinstalled the latest version of QT and iTunes so my iPad can sync with my computer again, because the crashes happen anyway. I'm using a Canon HF20 and HF200 recording in AVCHD 1920x1080P along with a Canon T2i recording in 1920x1080P MOV files. I am editing 3 video tracks as the shows I am producing are using 3 camera angles. Shutting the sound off of two of the tracks helps, but I need to keep them all on to make sure the tracks are in sync and this is when it crashes the first time. Once I am able to get the tracks in sync, I can then turn off the sound on two of the tracks. Then I'm able to edit....for a little while until it crashes when either previewing the video (which it doesn't handle well at all - it's not smooth by any means) or while simply moving the timeline. I've now come to click SAVE after nearly EVERY edit move....annoying and a waste of time.
I've got VSPro X3 installed on 2 different computers. One is a Sony Vaio SZ330 notebook with a 2.0 Core2duo CPU, 4GB Ram, 250GB HD (5400 RPM) and Windows 7. The other is a HP Pavillion notebook with a Corei7 CPU, 500GB 7200RPM HD and 6GB ram with Windows 7. Both have the same crashing issues.
I can edit other files ok (M2T, MPEG2, WMV) but just not the AVCHD and MOV files. I did purchase a $70 program that will convert AVCHD files to M2T files (this is before I found Super), but it won't convert MOV files and I don't have the time to convert the hundreds of video files I have simply to be able to edit them. I wish Corel could address the crashing issues and Canon's files.
I do have Sony Vegas Pro 9, but haven't taken the time to learn that program. VSPro X3 does a great job creating a professional looking end product, but the crashes are frustrating and very time consuming. With deadlines and so many projects I am working on, I can't rely on VideoStudio, as much as I'd love to.
If anyone can relay a message to Corel to make VS a usable product using TODAY'S camera files, please encourage them to do so. I have been using CorelDraw since version 3 back in 1991 and VideoStudio since version 3 back in the same era. CorelDraw is almost foolproof, does not crash very often and I make my daily living with it. Using VideoStudio, at least for HD, I would starve.

Re: VideoStudio Pro X3 crashes when running project
I think QuickTime may be the cause of some of the crashes.
I have downloaded the trial verson of Sony Vegas 9.
Why not give that a try.
X3 at first glance seems to be a lot easier to use?
Not sure what Sony Vegas V10 will be like?
At least they have 64bit versions

Re: VideoStudio Pro X3 crashes when running project
Hi shanezep
A little confused, my brain was with Liebling08’s post..
I own a Canon 7D, its an image camera with the facility to record video.
I think it may use the same video as your Canon T2i camera.
I have not used the cameras movie mode that much but am aware that VS does not fully recognise the Video.
If I right click a clip and select properties I do not see the Compression details, they should be H264AVC
Some details in this post http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... ilit=canon
Can you right click all clip types and select - properties . what are they.

Re: VideoStudio Pro X3 crashes when running project
Hi, all:
I have the same problem; but I am not using QuickTime. Before my last project, there was no problem. My last project was a very short clip taken by my digital camera, not video camcorder. My digital camera is Canon EOS Rebel Txi 18mp. The project source is MVI.MOV. When I run the VS, it frequently shows a "stop rendering dump file" message and then close the program. I finally finished the editing; but when I wanted to save the file as MPEG 4 about 35%, the message came again and my program was closed. My system is Windows Vista. I have to finish this project in these days, can anyone here help me out?
Or I have to try Sony Vegas now?
Thank you.

Re: VideoStudio Pro X3 crashes when running project
Hi eltonvon
You don’t give much to go on, just that you use Mov files and that VS crashes.
It could be related to your PC specification and whether your pc is up to the job of video editing, can you fill in your profile correctly to include some pc details, I notice you have a 80Gb HD and running vista.
Mov files are Quicktime, so if you haven’t got Quicktime you would not be able to open the files let alone edit them. Maybe worth your while looking at the version and then re-installing.
Please read this post it will give you some ideas on what details we need.

Re: VideoStudio Pro X3 crashes when running project
Yeah, I might just have to hunker down and learn Sony Vegas Pro, or maybe I'll give Sony Vegas HD 10 a try. It's just that I've been using VS for so many years it's quick and fast to edit for me. Sony Vegas Pro 9 has a different workflow. I truly believe it has to do with Canon's MOV files. The T2i is the same filetype as the 7D. As a side note, VS also crashes when trying to edit the Creative Vado HD files - not sure what that format is, but it locks it up tight. I have a friend who has a Vado and when I try editing his footage it's CTRL+ALT+DEL time. Frustrating.
I understand that new formats and variations are coming out quickly in the name of smaller file sizes with better quality, but Corel has an excellent professional product in CorelDraw (I'm on version X4) and VSPro X3 could be right up there with it if not for some of this quirkiness.

Re: VideoStudio Pro X3 crashes when running project
Hi shanezep
Problem computer crashes are most likely attributed to the pc and what’s installed or not installed rather than directly to the software. If the editing software was the cause then all users would experience crashes.
I have recently re-installed my pc from Vista to XP, many reasons why, but was experiencing some crashes when using a particular HD video format, (crashed when playing in clip mode)
Although I have to say that 7D files gave no problems when using Vista.
I still have the issue where VS does not recognise the compression name when viewing the 7D video properties, that is a concern. The camera records in several quality settings each shows similar “lack of “compression details.
Whilst writing I have just rendered 3 minutes of video (15 short clips) to Dv-Avi, no problems, and now added video filter effects to each clip, just to give the encoder something to do, again rendered ok.
Getting this far I am now trying rendering to the BluRay option.
The general advice in curing crashes is basically to check the installation.
1 / Update Video Studio with the relevant patches, is the program Full or SE.
2 / Manually update Direct X
3 / QuickTime version has been known to cause crashes. There is a fix for W7 users.
4 / Install the software that came with the camera, using this to upload/capture your video.(may just provide you with a missing codec) (Do not install Codec Packs)
I’m sure there are other things to try……….
5 / The problem remains, re-install Video Studio using a Clean Install.
6 / running out of ideas, drastic measures, re-install the operating system………….
The bluray render was also ok……………although it took a long time
