WinDVD10 Error

Post by msxd40 »

I have WinDVD10 that I installed in April of this year. At that time I could play Bluray and DVD movies although I would have to turn on dual displays and view on TV monitor rather than on just computer monitor. Now I am getting an error message that says I cannot play protected content. Am I being forced to buy the pro version when the advertising materials said the plain version 10 would do just fine?

Thanks for any help

I dont know, but It might not be WinDVD... Have you changed any of your video connections? How old/new is your video card? You shouldn't have any trouble with a VGA connection, but there's a "conspiracy" to prevent you from copying the HD digital data over a HDMI or DVI connection. Your video card or monitor may not support HDCP.

I just found this:
Also, consumers may want to confirm that the DVI interface supports High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP), as content that requires HDCP copy protection will require that both the HDMI and DVI devices support HDCP to properly view the video content.

DVDDoug's suspicion that your hardware may not support HDCP (High Definition Digital Content Protection) may be right on the mark. If that is the case, WinDVD Pro 2010 will not play your media.

Check your video card and monitor specs closely. The monitor should affirmatively state that it is HDCP compliant. If you are using a NVIDIA video card, the NVIDIA control panel will inform you regarding HDCP non-compliant hardware.

If you have legacy HDCP non-compliant optical drive, video card, or monitor, one solution is to replace legacy components with HDCP compliant components. This can get expensive.

Although the Digital Millennium Copyright Act generally prohibits circumvention of digital encryption locks, there are some fair use exemptions which might cover your use of such circumvention software. Assuming you can avail yourself of such fair use exemptions, check out AnyDVD and AnyDVD HD by SlySoft:

You will need AnyDVD HD to play Blu-ray discs. The Euro exchange rate is very favorable right now (if you're paying in U.S. dollars), and SlySoft sells a very reasonably priced lifetime license for AnyDVD HD. The cost of this license is likely to be much less than hardware replacement.

You can not have dual display turned on when trying to play back digital protected content, disable one of the monitors or display devices and it should work.

All the devices must be HDCP certified as well when connected through a digital connection, if you use an analog connection you do not have to worry about HDCP.
