Best video format for attachment to e-mail
I want to send a short video (30secs) which I have saved as a .mpg file.
I have tried attaching it to an email that I want to send to a friend but have stopped it as it seemed to be taking too long.
Is there a better format that I should create at the 'Share' stage of VS11. I have not tried this sort of thing before so all suggestions would be welcomed.

Hi Terry
Sending attachments within e-mails will have a size limit.
I think BT’s limit is 10Mb
But if you use Windows Live you can use the Sky Drive option allowing you to upload 50Mb.
You could simply load it to You Tube, I think there is a 15 minute 2 GB limit.
You could of course render the video to say WMV files that should reduce the size?
I ran a test and a 30 second Mpeg 2 video using 4000 kbps came out as 14 Mb.
Share Video on Line Best option creates a Wmv at 2.8 Mb, maybe that’s more suitable
Terry can you tell us just how small you have managed to make your movie in KB/MB
and can you tell us what your video properties are?

Video size is 27.3Mb. I do not know what the video properties are - purely my ignorance ! - but perhaps you could tell me how to get hold of them !
In the meantime , I will try a .wmv format video and see how that goes.

Problem solved !
I rendered a copy of the project into .wmv format and the e-mail was despatched in 60 secs. So thanks for that help.

Simply right click on the file in question, either in the VS library window or in the timeline, and select Properties... I thought you already knew that from your presence here on the Board for a long time now...!

Obviously not ! A truism to remember for all who live on this earth of ours , one is never too old to continue to learn something new !
I have now got to remember how to attach a screen print of the Video properties so that I can answer Trevor's question.

Re: Best video format for attachment to e-mail
Trevor
I had hoped to send you the video properties for the .mpeg video file ( and for the .wmv file whicj I managed to send via email). I took a screenprint of the pop-up window from within VS but cannot attach it to the forum page or even the .doc file that I pasted it into.
What is the technique for doing this ?

When you click on post reply, look underneath the text box and you'll see two tabs, options which is open and upload attachment, click on this, and then browse to your file, click add file, submit your post. Make sure it is a resized pic, 640x480 is a good big size and below 2mb

Hi Terry
It’s a learning curve and I have just found out that you can upload direct to the forum thanks to Graham
I assume you used Shift+PrtSc to capture the images.
Try using Alt + Prt Sc
This will capture the active window and not the whole desktop.
The Mpeg settings look standard DVD, although I would use Digital Dolby in preference to LPCM.
Viewing the images brings back memories of New Zealand, the brain isn’t what it used to be and needs a jolt every now and again.
Did you ever get a better quality map?

Trevor
Thanks for those pointers ! That ALT - PrtSCR certainly makes a difference , doesn't it ?
The answer to your question about the maps is "No". The best I got to was Google Full Screen Maps BUT I picked up elsewhere that if you also Press F11 , it removes all the tabs around the screen. My New Zealand video is on hold at the moment as a friend of mine has asked me to do a short training video for his company.
Regards
Terry
