Suddenly, major problems with DVD MovieFactory SE 5.6

Post by pfloydman »

Hi - I have been using DVD MovieFactory SE, which came with my Sony HG10 camera, for a while now with no problems. However, recently, I started having some problems with iTunes on my computer. Specifically, every time I started up, it would say “Warning! The registry settings used by the iTunes drivers for importing and burning CDs & DVDs are missing. This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software. Please reinstall iTunes." So I googled that problem and found a solution, which is described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2615?viewlocale=en_US

Additionally, I was told that I should reinstall the GEAR drivers that iTunes uses. So I did so here: http://www.gearsoftware.com/support/drivers.php .

I was able to fix iTunes, but now DVD MovieFactory SE is unable to function. Specifically, I get 3 different errors:

1) When I try to start a new project, it says, “Failed to initialize internal modules”
2) When I try to import a DVD, it first says, “Load MPEG VIO Driver Error” and gives me this path: C:\ProgramData\Ulead Systems\Ulead DVD MovieFactory\5.6\DVDMF.ini
3) It lets me continue with the import DVD process, but before it starts, it says, “Failed to Initialize VIO VIDDATA in the import DVD preview module. Report ID: 0x80040959(2393)

So basically, the entire program is rendered useless.

To try to fix the problem, I uninstalled the Gear Driver to no avail. I also uninstalled and re-installed the three Corel Applications (GuideMenu, InterVideo WinDVD SE, and Ulead DVD Movie Factory SE) and still get the same errors.

I am running Windows Vista. Can anyone offer any suggestions or solutions?

Good news - I figured out the problem. Simply uninstalling and re-installing is not sufficient. You have to go through the registry and delete everything related to the program after you uninstall. If anyone else comes across the same problem, follow these instructions:

OK, so the real problem is User Account Control. Has nothing to do with install/uninstall!

When UAC is on, MovieFactory doesn't work. If I turn it off and restart, it works fine.

Weird, huh?
