Scrolling Overlays

Post by Will_cain »

Greetings, once again I'm stumped.
I have a fairly boring video that I'm trying to liven up by scrolling some photos across the bottom. I've tried turning the photos into a video but I can't get that to "scroll" across the whole of video screen.

If this is impossible I'd like to pseudo randomly pop the photos over the video in different places but at a smaller size than the default overlay. Can I change the default overlay size?

I'm using VS X3

Hope someone can impress me with an answer

Cheers

Yes, you can change the default overlay size. Double-click the clip you have in the overlay track and this will open the options panel for that clip. Click on Alignment Options and you will see your sizing options and you can drag the corners of the click on the preview screeen to any position or size you want.
Now using Adobe Premiere and Photoshop

Hi

There is an Instant Project option (right icon) just below the preview screen

This produces some interesting effects suitable for the intro to the project.
Although it uses sample images, you can always replace the image with your own.
Just delete the bits you don’t need and replace the bits you like. (Right click a clip and choose re-place clip………)

The default title and audio can soon be changed.

There are a few templates to choose from with more available from the “get more content” (orange button)

Even if you don’t use them it will give you some good ideas in creating your own.
………………………………………………………….
Another option would be to use the Picture in Picture filter from the FX library.
………………………………………………………….
Editing using Copy and Paste Attributes
Once you have resized the first image, apply the size to other images, then reposition.

re the resize, yes thanks but seeing as I may want to insert about 50 photos I was hoping I could default the overlay to the size I want not change them all as I went along.

Picture in picture sounds interesting, I'll have a look when I get home

Thanks for thr responses

Hi Will

From Preferences you can select to Use Fit to Screen for overlay track.
By default clips will be inserted to the overlay track as a smaller size.
You can change this size or distort the size if required.
Select the clip in the timeline and then right click the preview window for options.

However afaik you cannot preset a default size. Sorry.

Clarification
Editing using Copy and Paste Attributes
Once you have resized the first image, apply the size to all images at once, then reposition.

Re the scrolling photos.

I finished up rendering the photos into a video file then adding 4 overlays next to each over an playing the same video in all 4 but starting 10 seconds after each over.

Crude but effective
