Moviefactory 5 and PAL Format

Post by Carver »

I need to burn a Windows Movie Maker movie to a DVD to be played in Europe. As I undertand it, that means I must burn the movie using the PAL fomat. Is that possible with Movie Factory 5? If so, how would I do that? I would also like to ask what format MovieFactory 5 uses by default?

Yes. Most of the world (including Europe) is PAL.

I believe you can choose PAL in your "Project Settings". Sorry, I don't have MF5 and I can't give you better instructions... I'm sure someone else can help if you have trouble. This page has a chart that shows the differences, but it's easier if you just choose "PAL".

I believe the default format is determined when you first install Movie Factory, so that North American and Japanese users get NTSC and almost everybody else gets PAL.

FYI - Most PAL players can play NTSC (from what I've read... I've never actually seen a PAL player ;) ), but most NTSC players cannot play PAL. But, computers can generally play either format so you should be able to test the PAL DVD on your computer.

In addition, commercial DVDs are region-coded and will only play in the proper geographical region, but this is not an issue with homemade DVDs.
