VS X3 demo - crashes during capture

Post by abreuma »

I just downloaded the demo. The first thing I tried was capturing video via my canopus ADVC-55 device, which I've done via Windows Movie Maker several times. VS X3 crashes just a few seconds into it each time I try. I applied all 3 patches I found on the support site - same results. I see it creates a dump file of some kind. Is there a log somewhere where I can pull out an error message to post here?

Welcome to the forums,

The dump files have no meaning to anyone on these forums. We are all just users of the programs like you. The dump files are for Corel's tech people.

What is the source of your video clips? Are they from a VCR? If so those are analog, and even though your Canopus device performs an analog to digital conversion, VS still recognizes the source as analog and will not allow it. This has been an ongoing problem since VS11. Corel was informed about it, however as ignored it.

Are you using Firewire to connect your Canopus to your PC? If so, try using Windows Movie Maker or a free DV capture utility called WinDV. It can be downloaded from HERE. I use it quite often to transfer my video from my Digital-8 camcorder, being used as a pass-through capture device. Once you have the video on your PC, you can then insert them into VS for editing.

Sony 8mm camcorder analog out to Canopus ADVC-55 analog in, then firewire to my PC.

Are you saying that VS doesn't capture from any firewire source? What other source would it capture from? I ask because I'm in demo mode and I'd like to understand what I'm actually paying for.

Thanks for the tip on WinDV - I'll check it out.
