I'm still getting nowhere with this... regardless of what I set the bitrate to in 'Project Properties', the burn module disregards it and I can't get the size down. I've tried creating a video file with the MPEG Optimizer with a file size of 4.3GB. When I import this into the timeline of a new project, the burn module states a disc size of 6.12GB! If I look at the media clip properties by right-clicking the thumbnail from the burn module, the data rate is set at 7000 kbps even though the native bitrate of the video file I'm using is only 5556 kbps.

Anymore ideas?

BINGO... I've found a work-around. From the burn module, if I right-click the video file thumbnail and click Delete, then add it again (all from within the burn module), the burn module correctly picks-up and uses the native bitrate of the video file.

Is this a bug?

Hi Ian

No this is not a bug.......................

The burner module will use the Project Properties as its default settings. I mentioned this in a previous post.
If you set the project properties to match your video file then it would use them.
If you need to reduce the bit rate do it to the project properties.

After Share Create Video File, you use the resultant file in the burner module.
How...........
Start a new project, nothing in the timeline.
Share Create Disc-Add Video.
Now view the settings under the options cogwheel, they should be what you want.

If you go to the burner module with content in the edit timelines then you are inserting a project a VSP to the burner module. This will be rendered in the final create stages (Create Title) to create a Mpeg2 file.

Please read my Quick Guide to Mpeg
http://lata.me.uk/video_studio/guides/q ... e_mpeg.htm

Although it refers to VS 10 it is relevant for all versions.

Hi Trevor,

The problem is the burner module is not using the Project Properties! Regardless of what the project properties are set to, the burner module doesn't use them. The only work-around I've found is to add the clip to the project timeline, start the burner module, delete the clip from within the burner module, then re-add it from the burner module. Then, the burner module uses the native video bitrate of the clip.

Hi Ian

If you Share Create a Video File-DVD the resultant file will be Mpeg2 hopefully below 4.3 GB, and suitable/compatible in burning a DVD.
If the file is above 4.3 Gb then you have to use a custom option to reduce the bitrate sufficiently to reduce the size below 4.3 Gb

How big is your video file in Gb?

If you start a new project, the timeline is empty, Share Create Disc – DVD the burner module will open.
From the first window Add Video Files, Using the Mpeg 2 created above.
Under the Options Cogwheel is “Do Not Convert Compliant Mpeg files”.
This option is selected by default, please check and make sure it is selected.
Under normal circumstances this option should always be selected.

The other properties seen here are superfluous and can be ignored as your video is not gonna be converted as its already Compliant
The only other option to get right is the aspect ratio, shown at the bottom of the main window. 16:9 or 4:3.

When you finally hit the burn button the process will start to Convert the Menu.
Continuing through a few more processes to burn the final DVD.

If you see Convert Title then the main video file is being rendered to a new video file.
This is not what is required as you are using a compatible/ Compliant Mpeg2 file.

Under the Options Cogwheel is Do Not Convert Compliant Mpeg files.
This option is selected by default, please check and make sure it is selected.

So when you finally hit the Burn button what does the top progress bar indicate?
Try this by Create DVD Folder, saves wasting a disc.
