Error converting DV AVI file from camcoder to MPEG-2 file

Post by Agalakov »

Hi,
I am converting my old DV AVI (NTSC) files to MPEG2 to save space on hard drive. The idea is that DVD authoring software will bypass re-rendering if I need to build a new DVD, and I save above 10GB of disk space per hour of video as well.
Corel Video Studio X3 converts file to standard NTSC DVD profile (4:3, 720x480) but every time after file was converted Video Studio X3 crashes with dump on exit.
It happened with four different files already, with and without hardware acceleration enabled.
I have Video Studio X3 SP1.

Welcome to the forums!

Would I be right in assuming that despite this annoying error, the DVD files produced work OK? If so, then this sort of thing has been reported by a number of users over the years and related to different versions of VS. No explanation has ever, to my knowledge, been found for why it happens to some users but not others... The only "solution" has been to simply ignore it, restart the program and move on to the next project.

Hi

You seem to indicate that the Mpeg is created successfully, but VS still crashes?
As Ken seems to think.

I had a problem when converting some formats where the program crashed when trying to play the file after render.

From the Create Video File window, select Options and un-tick Play File After Creating it…..
Does that make any difference?
