Croping a frame from a section of a video

Post by Italian101smiles »

Hello, My name is Theresa, I'm in San Diego, California. I have a deadline I need to meet tonight. I'm the Media Coordinator for our Pop Warner team. I did this before with no issues, but I am new at this. Now I can't seem to repeat my actions. I take video's of the game, then freeze the video to crop each pane. Problem is when I bring up the picture/video, I get the video but have nothing to work with, i.e., tools as I would if I had a still photo. I have a JX250 Fuji, using Paint Pro Shop X2...and yes, it's causing a lot of havic on my computer, but getting by. I know this can be done, because I tripped on it before. What am I forgetting or is it the way I saved my files this time? Thanks in advance.

Most Video Viewers Can capture still frames to the clip board or a folder Media player can be difficult but Others are easy Failing that You could use the snipping tool in windows. Some save as bitmap only others give a chose of format. Opening the captured frame in PSP to crop or enhance Is straight forward.

Trev,
Could you please clarify what the snipping tool is, what OS may or may not include this, and where it can be found?

Although I never had Vista I understand the snipping tool came with Vista And also WIN 7. Found under all programs Accessories Snipping tool. When activated one drags a selection around what you want to capture As you would a rectangle selection Then It appearers in the tools window where You can Hilight parts or draw around with a pen and save as PNG. Gif ,Jpeg or html. Or simply paste into PSP or probably word

I have Vista and can't find the snipping tool. I even tried the help section. I just use Control + Print Screen buttons. Paste into X3 (or whatever) as new image.

I'm probably going to finally upgrade to Win7 anyways. Microsoft is going to put the family pack upgrade on sale again on October 2nd. $150 for 3 upgrade licenses.

In X3, Organizer, you can play and pause a video and save that frame as an image. But it's a pretty clumsy interface.

This is taken from a PCWorld Article on Activating Vista's Snipping Tool.
If you have a version of Vista other than Home Basic, you already have the Snipping Tool screen capture utility: Choose Start, All Programs, Accessories, Snipping Tool. If you don't see it there, it may not be activated.

Go to Control Panel and open Program and Features (you may have to click Programs first).

In the task pane on the left, click Turn Windows features on or off. If necessary, click Continue when prompted by User Account Control.

Scroll through the list of features, check the box next to Tablet PC Optional Components, and click OK.

Turning on these features gives you not only the Snipping Tool, but also the Tablet PC Input Panel, Windows Journal, and other stylus-related features.

Ok, that's where it's hiding at. I had the Table PC features turned on for a while, some time ago. I got annoyed at the handwriting dialog constantly sliding in. Now I know where to go find the Snipping tool, should I decide to use it.. Thanks..;)
